I got a quote from one of the better AK47 builders out there. $1,000 to $1,200 for a Krink build on a demilled parts set
 . I must be in the wrong business  .

No doubt! A couple years ago I had a Bulgarian AK74 kit built up. Nothing special at all, standard build. The labor alone was over $500. I sent off the parts for the project before the SLR105 became available. I was a bit sick in my stomach when I realized the labor alone in my rifle cost almost as much as the SLR105 did complete. I'm not knocking what these guys do or what they charge, but your MUCH better off if you can find a factory built gun that fulfills your wants IMO. |

Lets do the math Parts Kit $700 Receiver $ 75 Labor $1,200 TOTAL $1,975 Is the finished product worth $1,975????????? |

Your forgetting shipping 2 ways which I would say is $40. Also need your US parts. If you have the receiver, you still need 5 more. That would be a trigger group, gas piston, then muzzle device or pistol grip. I do not want to add up the parts but that can be another $100 easy depending on which parts your using.
So your up to $2115. Oh, is this going to be a SBR? If not, need to factor in the price of a fake can. |

Yes, I believe it!!!! Here's the question, once you invest $2,000 to $2,400 into one of these, whats the finished product worth? $1,500?  If its an SBR, that probably reduces the marketability and value, double

No, it would not be worth nearly as much as you invested. If you want something that holds more of it's original value get a factory built gun.
As for SBR guns, I been researching SBR AR15's. They say it is very difficult to resale SBR pieces. But I still want one

Exactly. Same prob with these AK-102/104/105's I wanna build , and SBR. Putting alot into em.....I'd better keep em. Can't afford to sell. Sell Big Mac's for a 2nd job first.

Get a post ban SLR-105 for cheap, send it to him with the kit, and get the parts back from the SLR (the barrel is the most expensive thing on it) and sell them. |

I was wanting all the same things not too long ago. Everything I wanted was going to be built custom and cost me an arm and a leg. The AK74 fiasco changed my perception completely. I have sorta gotton out of AK's but if I were to seek 7.62x39 AK's I would be looking for Chinese Polytech Legends Yugo SA-85M prebans Egyptican Steyr Maadi Arsenal SAM7 Classic Arsneal SAM7SF Those rifles are sweet and will hold thier values as well as anything else that I know of. That is my official two cents worth. But those AK100 series guns are nice  |

Thats what Ive done, I have an SLR-105 host and KVar parts kit ready to go. How does In-range compare with guys like Chris Butler and Ted Marshal as far as quality of the build? |

Troy is way more reasonable than some other smiths out there so I'm sure MouseBoy could get it done cheaper elsewere, but still custom work always seems to cost so much. Your still talking what, $550 for the SLR donor gun? Figure in another $40 for shipping and transfer fee. Parts kit from K-var is $700. That is approx $1250 so far. SLR parts kit that would be left over is ~$250. So your down to $1000 + US parts + shipping + labor. $1500+? |

Troy @ InRange does outstanding work with a level of quality that will satisfy all but the most detail-obsessed AK fans. Plus, he'll get the job done in half the time and at a fraction of the cost of either of those other guys. I've BTDT, in the process of finding a builder for my AK-105 SBR. But don't take my word for it... get quotes from all three and see for yourself! |

$1200!! Who did you get that quote from? I have been looking around for someone to assemble my krink kit into a SBR and most of the reputable gunsmiths I have gotten a quote from are from $350 to $600 and that includes refinishing too. |
