Most people probably own both like I do but I prefer my AK anyday over my AR. Here are some of my reasons, which is your reason? If yours it not up there please feel free to add your own comments.
Thanks for voting

I used to be an AR Guy but,for my needs, the AR just did'nt do it.At the time,I needed a weapon that I could depend on in very adverse conditions without the luxury of support. The AK fit the bill,I carried a Galil ARM for a short time, but the weight became an issue.I then started using a Chinese type 56 folder and it fit my needs. All of this took place in the mid eighties but I still keep a folding stock AK close.

I like both but latley my RRA Car-A4 has been a safe queen, keeping my Garand and M1A company while the AKs go have fun on the range.

38 looks and only 4 votes? What's wrong? If the poll sucks my apologies....vote anyways.

Um, its not that I like her more, but I have more evil Ak's than Ar's. Something about the noise they make, the way they look, and the way people look at me when I shoot them

The cheaper ammo.
The cheaper rifle.
It just looks cooler.
Having occasional trouble with my dad's AR, and then reading here that you could beat someone to death with an AK magazine and it would still work. (And it looks like that was correct)
The receiver will be far easier to make than an AR lower.
All I do is plink, and it is fun to feel like I am sending something big downrange. hug.gif

you need an "all of the above" option

Each of those, plus:

-better placement and manipulation of the charging handle (I may be the only person on the planet who prefers it that way)
-a certain "cretin beauty," if that makes any sense
-better magazines

I came to the dark side because it showed up on Active Topics. When I close this window, it'll just be Active Topics and a thread in GD that I have open, so I guess I will have left the dark side of the board.

That is all.

Well I have both, my AR in 9mm, and my 223 gun in a DR200.

I'll get both one day.

I like shooting the AK alot though

When I was a young lad, ( 14 yrs ago ) I set about building an AR15. I had just finished a gunsmith correspondence course, and thought this would be a good project. I remember opening the bag with all the parts for the A2 rear sight assembly. All these itty-bitty springs, balls, parts, etc spilled everywhere. I remember thinking, “man this is ridiculous, all this crap for a sight?”

Then I bought my first AK, a milled MAK-90. The simplicity, and ruggedness of the design won me over. I never did finish that AR, although I did finish another AR15 later on for someone else.

Now I’m not bashing the AR from a design standpoint, but the AK design appeals to me more, everyone will have their own opinion of course…..

I like my my ARs better but I shoot my AKs more because of the cheaper ammo.

I own both and honestly love both.  I would have a hard time choosing between them.  Sometimes I shoot my AR more, then I get on to a kick of shooting my AK more, and back and forth and on and on......     I guess I have a commitment problem.   Actually, I KNOW I do!!!

I have several ARs and one AK, and they each have their own appeal.  Ammo isn't necessarily any cheaper, as the last 1000 rounds of Wolf polymer .223 only cost me $100.  My favorite thing about the AK is the cheap mags.  Even during the ban, mags could be found for $6-8 each, plus drums are less than $80.  Try that with an AR.   The AK is definitely mush simpler, but is no where near as accurate as my AR's.  However, the AK was never designed as a target gun.

I enjoy both styles of guns, and either one still gets the same look of awe at the range.   I will say this about the AK, they seem to have better resale than AK's (for the most part).

It's cheaper than my M4 and so are most parts and accessories.

I own (4) AR's, 3 .223 and (1) 9mm and I own (1) romak AK74, I like my ar's but the AK is much cheaper to shoot. It is a very simple rifle that seems like it will run forever. And with the size of the gas tube, it is huge, you will never have to worry about anything plugging up that gas tube.he

I can't say I prefer either one over the other without some sort of further qualification.  Both have their place and both are good guns for their own reasons.  Its like the old arfcom saying ...

I like pie.

(no wait, wrong one...)

Get both!

I own several of both.... The rifle I would grab if only one could be had is my AR15 A1 . Light , accurate, reliable, .  I would then tote a AK 74  clone ..... The AK 74 is the nicest and best  of the AK World... IMO... WarDawg

Between the wife and I we have (1) Colt,(2) Bushmasters and (2) ORF AK-74's. Her DCM Bushmaster is by far the most accurate but I've shot 1 3/4" 5-shot groups @  100yds with my SEAK and iron sights off sand bags. Like my five children,I love them all equally, but for different reasons.

I am building an RRA A4 as we speak. My MAK needs a friend. Hey besides...if someone invades I can borrow/pick up ammo from almost everyone.
