I was at a local gun show today and I found only one, but Bugarian waffles are all over.
Were these only used before the fall of the Berlin wall? Are they really that scarce?

Because the boat on East German 5.45 bakelites came and sailed almost 10 years ago. Back then, there was hardly any rifles and ammo with the exception of the early 5.45 Romy's. I remember E. German bakelites going for almost less than $2 in quantity. Fast forward to today and with more of a demand for 5.45, the East Germans that are out there are secondary market recycles. The Bulgy's are the current imports and that is what you will see more of. Every once in awhile, I distributor comes across a stash like AIM has now but expect to pay $$$.

+1

look at the ORF deal on Bulgy 74 mags...people who missed that missed the Bulgy AK74 mag boat...they will kick themselves in 2 years from now when these mags are $10 apiece.

Aer you looking for 5.45 E German bakelites? I stumble across them everywhere... check www.whatacounty.com, I just ordered a bunch from them.

Also, right now some dude has used ones on gunbroker for $5 each. I emailed him to see if he'll sell em a few outright. No need to work against each other and bid on something not workth more than $8-410 bucks each.

Pick up a Shotgun News and you'll see them here and there is the dealers adds. They are out there.

If you meant 7.62 mags (and I didn't know E Germans used bakelite 7.62 mags), then disregard...

Thanks buckandball. Yes, I did mean 5.45x39...
I got a private e-mail (generated from this site) from a guy who wanted to sell me
a lot of 10 new for $160. Good thing he didn't want to split them up! I ordered some from
whatacountry.com since they were new, just to add to my collection.

Ohio Rapid Fire had a deal, 12 AK-74 mags for $35, about $3.50 a mag. Eleven of the twelve I got were brand new.

Funny to see guys looking for them now.

When they were common a couple years ago, all you ever heard was guys complaining about how shitty the color looks. The swirled bakelite does look like faux wood paneling.

They look shitty but they lock in and out easier than new bulgys in my Sar.

I ordered two sets from Northridge. I hope they're new. Their website doesn't say. We'll see.

Bret & HotLead:
Did you receive your E. German Mag sets from Northridge yet?
Are they indeed 'NEW'? Do they look anything like Neutrino45's pics above?
If so, I need to order some too!

I got mine from Northridge this past week...They were brand spankin new just as in Neutrino45's picture. The whole Mag carrier comes in a sealed plastic bag, and everything inside is individually wrapped in brown (vapor) paper.

Neutrino45, is that big-assed silver thing some kind of tool or a blank firing adaptor?

It is a blank adapter for a AK-74 24MM FSB. Allows use of the bayonet also when using.

I've gotten 4 of these mag packages and all were new as stated. 2 Of the packages had a blank firing adapter in 14x1.0 thread.

The long blank adapters with 14 x 1 thread are for the MPi-AKS-74NK (East German carbine).

Yep, just got mine a couple of days ago. Mine were also just like Neutrino45's picture. The whole pouch and all was sealed in a large bag just like it came from East Germany. The magazines couldn't look any newer. If you're thinking about buying some, don't think any more. Just buy them.

Yeah, they are worth it!
