Getting rid of the sporter stock and installing a pistol grip, moving the internals, and a new stock is beyond my capabilities. Who could do this commercially?

Try Krebs...I think that they do the Saiga rifle conversions so a shottie shouldn't be out difficult. The question is will the "SWAT" version of the Saiga 12 be considered a destructive device

If they can get some Saiga 8-round 12gauge mags and the pistol grip kit and the shotty with the 18" barrel and exchangeable chokes I am going to get a boner

I have one I'd like done. Anyone have any more info? Azex is $300, but you have to supply the parts, too, right? Of course it includes a complete refinishing.

yes, you have to supply your own u.s. parts.

also, chris at ak-usa will do it for $225 (you supply parts).

you might also be able to talk some of the guys on saiga12 to do it as well (probably for a lot less) if you're willing to be really REALLY trusting...

umm, isn't importing any kind of firearm magazines from overseas illegal without approval from the feds?

Or did that expire with the ban?
Link Posted: 10/10/2004 7:35:57 AM EDT
as soon as I scrape up the parts mine is getting a folder and PG

I'm going to call AK-USA monday. I think I'll go with a Romanian wire folder. I like the short LOP.

Do it yourself....it's embarassingly easy to do a S12 conversion. If you really want to go crazy, you can buy a 12-ton press, rivets, and trigger riveting guard for under $200...then you have all the tools that the pros use, and it'll cost you less than what they charge for a conversion!

take care,
Tec

Sears...

Seriously, I looked into paying for it ($300 sounds about right, that's what AK-USA estimated), but $300 buys alot of tools & gun parts...

As soon as I get one, I'm going to do my own conversion... All you need is a drill press, dremel, and some time...

You need to file a Form 6 and get an approval.

It's free.

That's the extent of it, file, get approval, bring in mags (and hope we don't get another socialist whackjob in the Whitehouse, who will appoint an Attorney General (since ATF is now part of the DOJ) who will declare the Saiga a DD)...
Link Posted: 10/11/2004 2:44:35 AM EDT
Well, I broke down and started the conversion last night. Wiley E Coyote's got nothing on me!
Link Posted: 10/11/2004 2:48:28 AM EDT
I thought form 6 was only for business purposes?

Granted, there's no way you can bring in a pallette of mags for "personal" use, but I've heard of many instances a case of magazines ordered one or two at a time from overseas with no difficulty.
Link Posted: 10/11/2004 2:52:51 AM EDT
On the mags, its kind of iffy.

I read somewhere that a Form 6 is still required for magazines, but you can import other minor guns parts (basically everything except the barrel, bolt and receiver) without a Form 6 provided its under $100. Dont see how mags would be any different then a minor gun part.
Link Posted: 10/11/2004 3:56:20 AM EDT
can ohio rapid fire do these conversions?
