My apologies to the member who sent me the email about my milled MAK90 w/folder, particularly about the receiver block.   My server's new spam filter quarantined it, and when I tried to forward it to my email, it was erased.  SORRY!!  Please send me a new email if you read this.

Best,
Rich

That was me.  I'll send you another email.

I'm looking to convert my milled MAK-90 and liked what you did to yours.

Email sent.  Again, sorry for accidentally erasing your last message.

My receiver block was homemade and turned out better than expected, but it really took a long time to fabricate.  Fortunately, I work at a school where the industrial arts teacher gave me full access to the shop equipment.  I don't think I'd do it again if given the opportunity.  I'd probably go with the Ironwood stock instead.

Best,
Rich

I have an Ace milled Mak receiver block, but I would like to see some pics of yours.  I like the Ace block, but it seems to stick out too far, I have thought about shortening the block and removing about half of the upper tang and re-drilling.  Would be very interested in seeing your setup.

Here are some pictures:

These pictures show the setup for my folder.  The block attaches to the receiver via a plug that was fashioned out of an old dumbbell rod.  There's a hole that passes through the block, the plug, and a plate made of 1/8" steel that hooks inside the rear of the receiver's hole.   It's held together with a long machine screw, washer and nut.  The Ace folding mechanism attaches to the block.  It's all a little crude, but it's absolutely functional and not a bad job for someone with no machining experience.

I had all these pics and info posted last year, but they've probably been sent to the archives.

Best,
Rich

Boot,

Where did you find the ACE MAK90 milled receiver block.  ACE don't sell'em anymore.

Rich,

Thanks for the pix.  That helps explain a lot.

I'm beginning to think AKs are almost as interesting as ARs.

GOH, My hero After seeing yours I had to have one. I have access to NO tools, but have as much ambition as a Turkish gunsmith. Here is mine. Not as nice as yours, but keep in mind it was done with a small bandsaw, benchtop sander and a hand drill.

Oh yea, I used aluminum for my receiver block and not steel.  This is what made it possible.

Nice job, TC1!   Don't say it isn't as nice as mine.  It looks as though you did a terrific job.  Aluminum would have been much easier to work with than the crazy stuff I used.  Mine was extremely hard steel cut from a plate that belonged to an old Universal multi-station weight machine.  Nearly destroyed a chop saw trying to cut it.  I tried to weld some fins to the side to help stabilize and it would not take the weld at all.  Fortunately, the fins weren't necessary and the block has absolutely no wobble.   Still, what a pain.

Wow
Nice work guys. I need a similar fix for a slant cut stamped reciever.
