I'm interested in the all black furniture under folder AK model you see on the VECTOR URL page.

I'm was getting ready to buy that ARSENAL, INC Black underfolder milled AK listed for $1,200 when I spotted this one at $499.

It doesn't have a flash suppressor or bayo lug like the ARSENAL $1,200 rifle, but at less then half the price it still looks pretty darn good. Any of you guys familiar with this $499 Vector? Is it good stuff?

www.vectorarms.com/indexframe.html
Click onto the AK-47 box, and the rifle I'm asking you about is the 5th one down. (2nd rifle up from the bottom)

They are all supposed to be built on the OOW receiver I believe and the slant break is correct for the parts kit it was built from. If you want a flash suppressor all you have to do is purchase the one at K-VAR that is 14x1 LH thread May not be correct but it should work.

Edited to correct spelling errors that made me appear drunk though I am sober.

Naaaa, I would just leave the flash hider off to keep the gun historically accurate. Though I wonder if it should have had a bayo lug????

I wonder if the OOW receiver is well worth a purchase. I guess one advantage is it would sure be a lot lighter than a Milled ARSENAL, INC. gun. The 5 YEAR WARRANTY ON THIS OOW GUN IS IMPRESSIVE TOO!

Well, the funny thing is, that the all black underfolder I want is not even shown in the Atlantic WebSight.

Also, I'm scared to order from Atlantic until the management acknowledges that they have a problem with their shipping boxes. I'd just DIE if my rifle arrived with it's body parts hanging out of the box. I can't stand a scratch or blemish, no less muzzles being scraped on the sidewalk at the shipping depot.

As far as back order FORGET THAT! We've got only 3 weeks before the election. If you can't give any one of these distributors a firm deposit and be guaranteed a rifle in you name, you may never get one. (Atleast not without being gouged for an extra $200-$300 bucks)

Inauguration isn't until Jan and unless they take both houses of Congress also, it'll be some time before they have what it takes to muster another run at the Constitution.

If there is currently a back order of 4-6 weeks for some AK's, and 2 or 3 months for a Colt M-4 at $1,100, then what do you think is going to happen if Kerry get's elected? You think that would ease demand and drop the prices?

If anybody is thinking of buying anything, BUY IT NOW!

I'd suggest to "Panic" and start thinking ahead if you don't wish to spend hundreds$$ more just weeks later.

ABOUT SHIPPING DAMAGES:

I took note of a very simple solution having been taken when I ordered two $500 Korean Air Rifles from Air Specialist Company of NY. The distributor/ seller took it upon himself to ship the rifles in cheap plastic $10 rifle cases. Of the two seperate rifles purchases I placed about 6 months apart, the second rifle purchase arrived with the plastic case corner badly cracked. But the rifle was perfect. I shudder to think what would have hapened to that rifle had it been thrown around on it's muzzle this hard in a typical import flimsy cardboard box. To this day the cracked plastic rifle case stands against the wall in my attic. I use it for blue-print storrage. It served it's intended purpose well of protecting the rifle during shipping. The seller was SMART.

I have noticed that Bushmaster has recently started shipping their rifles in a plastic rifle case as well.
As far as: "Don't worry, you're covered by shipping insurance". Yea, I can just hear it now.... Fed Ex: "Sorry, you need to take it up with your seller that improperly packaged it." and the Distributor: " Sorry you need take it up with FedEx that damaged it in transit" and.... "We will not pay return shipping"and..... "We will not reimburse you for the Transfer fee. WHO NEEDS THE HASSLE?

Before ever ordering anything from any company I would continue to check the general consensus of what folks have to say on the internet about it.... Including SHIPPING DAMAGES. When I hear not one, but numerous complaints about the same thing, it becomes a concern to me.

Have you recently started to double box the rifles? Knowing that these are recent changes would have eliminate concerns, as I would have know then that you were addressing the problem. But reading that you deny that the problem ever existed, and thus my not knowing if this is the same double boxing you might have been using all along, simply leaves you in dispute with what others have had to say. My worries remain.

I would order the rifle from you if I had no choice, but I would prefer to see if I could get it instead from the the folks at Vector.

I thank you for your attention on the matter, but the unease remains. Perhaps, it helps you to know what some folks are thinking so you can inform the company of these lingering concerns, and they can address the problem better. I'm not trying to be difficult, just trying to protect a $575 investment. ($499 + shipping, + transfer fee)

Blaine is a good guy - has always been helpful whenever I have spoken with or emailed him.

My AK V47 arrived at my FFL double-boxed and in excellent cosmetic shape. The inner, Vector-supplied box is an elongated trapezoid, and the rifle is secured inside via tie-downs. This box is snuggly enclosed in an outer shipping box. If United Punch and Smash (UPS) manages to damage the rifle, then they are probably trying to do so - something I have long suspected...

It's just a great rifle, and Atlantic is a great company to deal with.

This is an AKM we're talking about! Short of running over it with a truck, there's not much bad shipping or packaging could do to severely mess it up. I've seen AKs being carried with a split stock with wire wrapped around it to hold it together. I've seen AKs with the stock wired to the reciever. I've seen them carried with the stock missing completely! Yet each of these rifles would be more reliable than the M-16 I'm issued any day of the week.

We're not talking about a rare AKM produced in 1972, stored in a musem in pristine condition and shipped to us. It's a bastard combination of parts from at least 3 countries assembled for us to enjoy! I ordered one myself! If mine comes with a scratch on the charging handle, so be it! I intend to do a hell of a lot more than that to it out on the range! They're shooters!

Listen to the man himself. If you're not happy, he'll fix it. Short of one or two guys complaining about bad shipping they failed to resolve with Atlantic, I've heard nothing but good things about them and Vector. If you can afford one, don't wait. grab it while you can! I've paid more than that for a post-ban piece of shit that pisses me off every time I look at it!

Heheheh! I really gotta try smokin' that shit someday!
I'm going to buy one or two of these rifles myself, I think. I would like a few opinions from others around here if they would be so kind. But I'll take one of my M4s anyday over a beat to shit AK, probably over a new one unless I were going to be going out into the bush for a month at a time with limited supplies.

What I like most about the for where I live is that I think there is proabably enhanced reliability in very cold temps(though I've had no problems with my ARs ever) and the 7.62 FMJ will penetrate alot of tree(we've got plenty).

Shit guys lets get a group buy together. I spoke to Blaine and he would have gave me a further discount for me buying more then one! I think he said $439. I dont think youre going to get a better price. Blaine seems like a standup guy and has been very helpful and service oriented. I was only able to get one. My bubby backed out. I should have got 2 anyway, just to piss off the antis.

Hell ya! Let's f'ing do it.
I might even take 2. Actually I'll almost certainly take 2 if they are as nice as people are saying here.

I would like for someone who has gotten their hands on these tell us about the kits, the slant brake, how the folder is installed in the receiver. Don't know that OOW makes a rec for an underfolder, or do they?

Maybe I just overlooked this in the past, but a few of the AKs Atlantic offers come shipped in rifle hard cases.

Okay, me too. I got on the list for 2.

This is the way that group buys are supposed to work. Blaine gets more sales and we get a discount. This is awesome! I hope he gets an order for 50. Thanks Blaine.

I am in Eagle River.
Do you ever go to the Hometown forums? They are up near the top of the screen.
We are going to have an armorer's course this weekend in Baraboo.
There are also other shoots and get togethers. Haven't made one yet but I tried to do the last one. Everyone had a great time. Maybe we can get one going for right after deer season. Weather might hold out and if we do it in the southern part of the state(where these are usually held) it might work out great timewise.
We have a very secluded range by me and I can usually go out and do just about whatever I want there. There is no range officer, etc. Maybe we could get a couple of northwoods guys together for a day somewhere in the area.

I am interested in one. How would a group buy work? I guess we would just contact Atlantic separately and pay them?

That's about it.
Just go on their site and pull up the contact info. Email him(Blain) with what you want and your info. You will need an FFL to handle transfer so make sure that you have one prior to purchase. Mention the group buy and ARFCOM.

take care,
Tec
