Hi all,I already have a converted Saiga, but want another AK. Torn between an SLR95 or MAK90. They both seem to be close to each other in price, and quality. So, which one should I get. Thx, Joe.

I would go with the Mak 90. Chinese AK's are of great quality.

Kinda interesting you decided to make this your first post over the last 6 years...

Although the obvious answer is get both, I don't think I'd ever have to think about which one of those two to pick.

Granted I'm a little biased, being a proud owner of an Arsenal Bulgaria SLR-95

However, I'm not terribly familiar with the way things run in Canada...does the MAK have a pistol grip? If so that may be an advantage if you don't want to have to add one to the SLR. Also, I definitely think wood furniture looks much better on an AK than the synthetics. Despite those shortcomings, I bought the SLR since I figured it'd be the only way I could afford a milled receiver AK and I felt I got a good deal on it.

Use the "Edit Profile" button at the top of the page.  Edit user settings and select United States as your country.  Otherwise you keep getting advice based on Canadian laws and choices.

I own both, both are great rifles. Is the MAK you are looking at milled? Does it have a straight (non-slant) cut receiver? If the answer is no to either or both of those I'd go 95, if the answer is yes to both then I'd go with which ever one is cheaper. BTW I prefer milled, maybe that isn't important to you

AFAIK all milled MAKs were slant cut.  The preban Polytech version known as the Legend was square at the rear, but every ban era milled MAK-90 I've ever seen or heard of has the angled cut on the rear of the reciever.  The stamped version came in cut and uncut versions.

I've been suspect of this but have never confirmed it, if it is true I would prefer the 95 but thats only if one cares about the slant I suppose
