To have the proper base for accurate optics, you are going to have to get a mount that attaches to the receiver. That will entail drilling(very accurately) into the receiver. Dust cover mounts are a waste, pitch 'em.

I agree. I've, also, got a dust cover mount on my SLR and even though it fits very tightly it needs to be re-zeroed ever time I clean the rifle......I just hate to drill the reciever. I think that job should go to a good gunsmith. That would be the right way to go.

IMHO, that is the only way to go. If you are as little as 1mm off your POI is FUBAR. Plenty of good AK smiths out there, let one of them do it. |

If you are going to get one that mounts to the receiver, drop Tantal a line iirc, they are about $25.

the Russian side rail is the only way to go...Tantal has mounts and scopes for every need... I use the MTK-75 with 1" Simmons scopes and others. Good luck.
