What do you guys do with the engraved "G" on the Romy rifles?

I recall reading somewhere that guys fill it in with differing compounds.

What does the G mean again? Seems like I read something about it, but I can't remember.

No, I mean fill it in as to obscure it.

run a smooth file over the rear sight base and the G will become faint enough to hide when you paint the rifle.

The "G" marked rifles were issued to a police force of some sort. It wasn't analogous to anything in the USA. Romanian police were a part of the military until 2002. Someone posted a detailed explanation of this a long time ago. I can't find it.

Thanks for the info. I know you're right... I remember someone posting something a while back. I had just forgotten what it was they said. Thanks!

The "G" rifle were issued to a group that's like a combined National Guard/ROTC unit.
Kids of high school age were trained on the rifles, and older folks (non-military) also used them. Hence semi only.

"G" stands for Garda (Romanian for Guard) as in the Patriotic Guard.

Don't deny your gun's heritage - leave the G alone.

After reading the info above, I'm inclined to agree. Leave the G. It has historical significance.
