I want to get a special gift for a friend that has been very kind to my family.

Have any of you stood before an AK(pic or in person), and just been awe-struck?

I need ideas, and pics, or links to pics if you have them.

I know I could get Ironwood Designs to make some special furniture(for the right price).

Are there any other custom furniture builders out there(besides Soup Bowl)?

Any ideas or pics appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Its a toss up between some of the type III reproductions people have done (like the one on that website) and an IMI Galil.  I have only handled one Galil, man that thing was as smooth as whale shit on an iceberg.  Poly Tech Legends are sometimes really nicely done, others are a bit crappier- they vary.  Seen some pics of preban Hungarian underfolders that were scorchers as well.

For me, there's something classic about a Chinese underfolding spike bayo model in really good shape.

As far as custom furniture, Z-recto in Arkansas is second to none in my book.  Great guy to work with and his woodworking is very impressive.

This Ted Marshall build on Tantals website is just drop-dead gorgeous. I think thats the same rifle that was in Lord of War (scene where Cages' character is checking out the Soviet armory and gives the voiceover on the AK).

Well I've seen photos of plenty ( AK 74's with Russian wood are my favorate), but this one I built and it's the nicest one I own.

Pic I stole from here. Somebody on Arfcom owns it and I believe somebody on here customized it. I liked it so much I saved it.

Here's my Yugo M70 "Sara". She's getting a bit old but is still a hottie.

When I first laid eyes on that stock carving of her I was awestruck!

Yeah...she's a hottie! It's not every day that you get to see a hottie that's an actual veteran...

You lucked out when you got that parts kit...

I might pick up one of the Yugo kits before they're gone...hopefully I get one with a bit of "character" on it...

Gets my vote.  I don't care for the solid OD green plastic furniture you usually see but the mottled green bakelite in the pic=

2nd would be the early laminated wood AK74.

Actually, Ted Marshall just did the receiver markings. The Firing Line did the build and Checkmate Customs did the blued finish.

I like mine, of course!

Stock - Russian side folder with rolled edges, from K-Var
Receiver - Global Trades 1.0mm with selector notch relocated and NFA engraving by Tom Sawyer and ORF receiver re inforcement plate spot welded in place
Pistol Grip - Israeli Galil take off
Hand Guards - Ironwood Designs M92 laminated wood
Flash Hider - Removable Bulgarian 4 part FH that was cut and TIG welded to the Yugo threaded portion of the original Yugo FH.

Well I'm not going to win any long range contest, but it gets the job done. And it does it with a nasty fireball

Here's a better pic. I also served with 4ID through Iraq in OIF 1 and OIF 4 however my unit wasn't part Uday's or Qusay's raid. I think I might have got this pic from this site about 2 years ago. I'm not sure it has been a while.

Doesn't really matter.  I think the wood finish and metal finish are what sets any AK apart from the herd.

There's some beautiful pics above!

Well, most beautiful I have seen picture wise, I going have to say that polished up pimp daddy milled Russian AK-47 clone. As far as in my hands goes, I have hundreds of pics of past stuff we have done but here are a couple.

This one is one of two Galils we built a few weeks back. Sold one and this one is mine. Of my personal stuff, its the new kid so its my fav right now...lol...

I am also fond of this little sucker. Its a Polish tantal clone we built for Mr. Fuchs.
