They are a hollow square of steel...

These tubes are a real bugger to work with compared to a flat... |

just buy a complete AK. Easier, especially since you seem to be not so experienced with AKs in general.

The bent blanks aren't that difficult to build from.
I did a few that way before the bending jigs became available. More info here. bent blank tutorial |
