Bout the only difference is the mag dimple in the receiver.. If this doesnt bug you, it does me, then save your bucks and buy the WASR..

Not having the dimple can relate to some mag problems so fork up the extra cash and get a SAR1

Save your money and get the WASR and a case of ammo. There is absolutely no difference in mag fit with a dimple vs. no dimple, just cosmetic. $350 for the WASR isn't a bad price, just make sure the sight isn't canted and other common probs aren't there. You can get it online for $289, but after the transfer fee and shipping, you'll end up around the same price.

Get a Chinese MAK-90 at your local gunshow. Guarantee you someone will be carrying one around to sell for $325-$375, and will most probably come with a couple of magazines. The preban replacement barrels can be had for around $65.00 from polytechparts.com KF |

Besides the usual Romy straightness issues (sights, gas block, side rail parallel), it depends on the quality of the hicap conversion. Guns are otherwise equal wihtin normal production variation.
Test fit mags in both guns (30rnd). If the WASR is real floppy compared to the SAR, pass. IF it is the same or tighter, save $75. Cheap AKs are like buses, another is always comign along. Don't force the purchase. |
