Just picked up my first AK.  I have an AR so I am familiar with break in period (shoot clean shoot clean etc...).  Is there any such requirment for AK's?  Any special ammo for first hundred rounds?  Thanks.

Get a 500 round case of Wolf 7.62x39.

Shoot one round then disassemble and clean for the first 100 rounds.

For the next 400 rounds. Clean after every five rounds.
None of this is necessary but it builds character.

Yeah. It's not a $3,000 match grade rifle. It is a tool for killing not accuracy. Not to mention I dont think it would help accuracy at all. Maybe if it was an Ar-15 H-bar.

If your AR has a chrome lined barrel you wasted your time. Chrome lined bores (like your SAR-1) require 2-300 rounds to be fired through them without cleaning to break them in.

The Break in procedure I use is as follows:

1.  Run a dry patch down the barrel.
2.  Pour 1/2 cup of mud down the barrel followed by 1/4cup of sand.
3.  Pour 1/4 cup of mud into the action followed by  1/2 cup of sand.
4   Hand cycle action 25-30 times.
5.  Submerge in a tub of water, action open, shake vigoursly for 10 seconds.
6.  Hang dry, action open, barrel down,  for no less than 30 minutes.
7.  Shoot at least 100,000 rounds of anthing you can get your hands on.
8.  Repeat steps 1-7

Note:  Increase amounts of mud & sand by 20% for Use in a RPK

I have found this to be the optimum sequence for proper Break-in of any AK!!

I don't agree wiyh ru4freedom. I believe a combination of raw eggs, jello, and a simple, but meaningful, handfull of sand and gravel are enough to satisfy this bitch known as AK. Oh yes, we dress them up, give them presents, take them places they've never been, but they are still AK's. Damn ,I wish they would appreciate us a bit more, but like all the ladies we've ever known, they will fight for their man when the rubber meets the road....Shoot that sombitch.
