Looks like everybody gets airborne then overcorrects.....
Is that the cause of all those 45 degree to turn radius marks?

Ok, It doesnt look to me as if you could do what he did on that corner, unless he went into it just WAY TOO HOT. the left turn that he should have been set up for doesnt look that bad, even coming over the hill from the previous corner.
I know that the DIABLO is an un-forgiving car. Lambo usually insists that you come to their driving school in Italy so you can get some high speed stick time before you take delivery of one. Actually anyone can go through the school they offer if you can ante up the 14G or so for the class. I still dont see just how he did what he did coming out of the previous corner and going in to the Left hand sweeper... I heard about a guy thay put a GT40MkII into a guard rail at a vintage race at Road america one year. I had a friend that was at the corner watching, He said the guy just sat there STUNNED from what he had just done...WOW. KyARGuy |

Neyt!...p.o.c to do what he did! From the years I have worked high speed driving schools, the 2 most dangerous students are:
1. BMW drivers, I have seen more of them handed their hats in very undignified manners.(one carried off for a final dirt nap) 2. The neuvo-rich who just bought a new toy. They figured they were smart enough the get the money for one, they are smart enough to dirve 'em! I was working the tower one day when "BillyBadAss" showed up in his brand new 996 in Speed Yellow(with matching color helmet, gloves, and shoes), did something very simular at 130mph. Biggest part of the mess needed to be cleaned up with chlorox!  Lambo dude crested too fast, not enough rubber on the road, and over compensated, AND!...I'll bet he had the brakes slammed thru the floor! |

I've driven that circuit many times, and I can tell you that's just fucking funny! I bet the spectators along the front stretch got a big kick out of seeing him go "airborne" and then shit his pants. |

"Le Mans" was on the CCA DVD player this morning and I was telling Juggernaut about that.
That was the second scariest racing accident I've ever seen. But keeping on topic, when I used to go and help out with the Ferrari Challenge, I saw a guy in a (then) pristine 1950's 250-sw take it in that dip coming out of 4(?) during the historics. Nothing like seeing some 60 year old guy total a million-dollar-plus piece of history and then laugh about it. |

i think you are supposed to line your helmet up to certain dots on the bridge and you arent supposed to lift either...somewhat similar to a turn in Lime Rock
lift and crash I just cant wait for the upcoming Watkins Glen TT we are doing I love that track high speed blind corners are the best and the esses are the bomb |

a guy I work with knows the guy who totaled that lambo. Unfortunatley there weren't many spectators there that day because it was a PCA open track day. Since it wasn't race just a track and test day, he filed a report with insurance and got a new one.

He had to lie under his regular insurance. My insurance on my Porsche had an exclusion for any track event, including Drivers Eds (what that PCA event was) and Autocrosses. You could however purchase riders to cover DE events. I will say that I did hear of a BMW driver who had his towed to a different location to report the contact. Again I did not witness that one.
Insurance on my car was only affordable under "speciality companies", ie which limits usage, annual mileage, storage, service facilities, etc. I seriously do not miss it. |
