I put a Romanian front sight threaded 22mm and a romanian wire side folder on my SAR-2.

Both of the front sight and wire side folders finishes are a bit rough and dont match the rest of the guns parkerizing.

I was thinking of using Brownell's AlumaHyde II to fix the finish on these two parts.

I am not worried about it matching I just want rust protection.

I dont want to remove the front sight, can I just tape around the front sight and then spray the Alumahyde II on?

Is there a better product besides Alumahyde for this?

Would it just be better to take it to a smith and have him finish these parts?

I dont want to spend alot of money.

Thanks in advance

I used some Brownell's Oxpho-Blues for small touch-ups on mine.  It seemed to match fairly well and is easier to use than the paint type coatings. I cleaned with brake cleaner and warmed the part slightly by placing it near a 75 or so watt bulb for a few minutes.  Five or ten miunutes and you're done.
