I'm thinking of having a build party. Here is a list of the tools I have: press, receiver bending jig, trigger guard jig, barrel removal & installation tool, spot welder, air compressor, air grinders, dremel tools. If you have anything you think we might need, bring it along. Let me know if any one is interested in a build party so we can set a date.

The build party date will be August 2nd. The build party will be held in the Nanticoke area near Wilkes Barre. I will give directions if you commit to the build party. Bring anything you think we might need for the build's.
Thanks and hope to see you there.

If your committing to attend the build party shoot me an email so I can send you directions.
Hope to see you there.

I will be there and have all the tools/jigs needed to build. I however will only be welding my five receivers and might finish a kit or two. I have a 12 ton press and drill press if you want me to bring it.
Link Posted: 7/31/2008 1:19:26 PM EDT
Anyone coming to the build party, if they have an extra trigger guard please bring it along.

Link Posted: 7/31/2008 1:28:58 PM EDT
I can't make the party, but if you need a place to shoot the builds, I'll be at my place about 40 miles NW of your build site (looks like about an hour drive). Plenty of room to shoot (40 acres of woods) if you want to head up. Just drop me an email if interested.

Thank you for the invite. I guess it will depend on how long it takes for the builds, to see if we have enough time. Shoot me an e-mail with your info incase we have enough time.

Thanks Again

Any chance you could take the time and post all the problems you had?

It will help future readers to keep a look out for these problems ahead of time.
Link Posted: 8/7/2008 3:49:50 PM EDT
seriously--if you have another---I am in---I will buy whatever we don't have for the build----am looking for the learning experience above the financial aspect
Link Posted: 8/8/2008 9:36:03 AM EDT
This is some of the problems we had on the Romy kit from hell.
1# The rear trunnion would not line up with the hole's in the receiver.
2# The mag well & mag rails required extensive amount of fitting.
3# The top cover required a good amount of fitting.
We don't want to tell all.
We don't want to hog all the fun.
We want to save some fun for our next Build Party in September.
I hope we don't get any kit's from hell we already did our penance

Link Posted: 8/15/2008 9:54:32 AM EDT
I am so there-----not gonna miss this one!!!!!
Link Posted: 8/16/2008 3:53:16 AM EDT
What type of flat did you use on the ak from hell?

He used a Tapco flat with the pre-drilled trunnion holes. I used three of these Tapco flat with the pre-drilled trunnion holes and had very little problems with them. The front trunnion holes are a hair off to the back of the receiver so a little grinding is needed at the back of the mag well. This isn't bad for bending the flats yourself to grind a little off the back of the mag well, I have two Nodak receivers that I had to grind the mag well on to.
Hope this helps to answers your question.

The second build party is on September 20th. If you miss this one you won't get a second chance because there is no more. So e-mail me if your planning to attend.

could we build a polish tantal? I can buy the kit cheap
Link Posted: 9/1/2008 8:53:51 PM EDT
[Last Edit: 9/1/2008 8:58:13 PM EDT by Lusciousclay]
Yes we can build a polish tantal. If you use a Tapco flat, it won't have the selector switch on the left side, but even on the receivers that have them, they don't work anyway. I did a tantal on a Tapco flat. Here is a pic of it. So feel free to bring your tantal kit. e-mail me if you decide to attend the build party.
The build party is in 18 days, get your kits and lets have some fun e-mail me if you decide to attend the build party.

You will also need an AK 47 selector, rivets, and center support,
Hope you can make the party.

clay---got all the info and directions---not to be a pain---bout how long did the build party last the last time you did it-----gotta give the old lady a rough idea of how long she is gonna have to chase our 5 boys around without my help----what's that you say---all weekend
Link Posted: 9/2/2008 5:20:08 PM EDT
[Last Edit: 9/2/2008 5:41:08 PM EDT by Lusciousclay]
We can't judge how long it took from the last build party because we had the Romy kit from hell. But the second Romy kit went much better, from the de-milling to the reassembling about 2 1/2 hours. If you bring a kit from hell I would say about all weekend with heavy Aggravation, Frustration, and Intoxication. Then we get a vacation.
Link Posted: 9/2/2008 7:32:36 PM EDT
emailing you back
Link Posted: 9/3/2008 4:21:03 AM EDT
don't worry---if I have a kit from hell I have 5 other kits as backup
Link Posted: 9/3/2008 5:09:24 AM EDT
where can I buy a kit from?
Link Posted: 9/3/2008 5:29:09 AM EDT
It depends on what kind of kit you want to build. Check www.gunbroker.com/Auction/SearchResults.asp

honestly, I have no idea what I'd want to build. It would have to be AWB compliant since I'm in NY. Are the romanian kits any good? and what should I look for, what should I be paying?
Link Posted: 9/4/2008 5:32:11 PM EDT
I will be attending and will have some rivet kits with correct swells for you late comers or those that forget their rivet kits. I will probably leave my 12 ton press at home unless I really feel like throwing it in the car. Not a big deal to do I just dont know if I want to hear it clanking around in my car for the hour drive. I will only be welding up receivers and have built a handfull of kits so I will bring some of my specialty tools and a few jigs to speed things up for others.
Link Posted: 9/5/2008 9:33:01 AM EDT
Guys, Is an unissued , excellent condition, romanian kit for $260 a good deal?
Link Posted: 9/5/2008 10:12:36 AM EDT
That would be up to you on how you feel about it, I'm sure that people thought I over played for some things but I felt better in the quality & appearance of it. So buying the one with the bigger price tag on it is nothing new to me.
Good luck in your decision.
