with your help, of course
I know I'm not the only one who is fascinated by Soviet era small arms wood. I love collecting as many different variations as possible, and am always amazed at the variety of finishes,..light, dark, red, maroon, brown, orange. So, I'll get it started with a few, and add more later (as soon as I get time to take 'em out of storage and get some nice outdoor shots). In the mean time, please post your pictures here.. full sets, individual pieces, doesn't matter. If you know the time period it's from, feel free to add that or other details to make this a helpful reference. Enjoy...
A row of AKM upper handguards:
Another:
Mid-style (late 60's) AKMS set. (has U-insert instead of forwars tension spring in lower handguard)
Early-mid AKM lower handguard (U-insert, rounded palm swells) beneath later production (more squared swells, forward tension spring)
If Ekie, Chamberlin or anyone else has any corrections as far as info, please chime in! I'm far from being an expert.
