A friend has an AK that he offered to me for $300. It comes with a letter stating that the US parts are the trigger group, muzzle brake, follower and floorplate. There are ten followers and floorplates with it. Is it a good buy? What's the good, bad and the ugly about it?

Receiver is marked:
ROM AK 991
cal 7.62 x 39
ROM ARM/CUGIR
Made in Romania
D.I.G. Va BCH Va

On bottom of receiver:
OOW Chardon, OH

Furniture is black and marked made in Bulgaria.

That is a more than fair deal. Takes double stack mags right? I ave the 5.45 variant of this rifle... Of course I got mine and a mint 99% Russian 1956 SKS for $350 for both... Eat your hearts out boys!

Yep, it takes hicaps. I gather OOW converted this from a single stack mag and added the US parts and Bulgarian furniture.

If I were you, I'd probably pick up a US-made pistol grip from K-Var that matches the one currently on your rifle, and a US-made gas piston from Tapco, and ditch the followers and floorplates. I've always thought that was a rough way to get your six American parts. Legally you cannot use any other mags in your rifle unless you install in them the US-made floorplates and followers that you have. Sounds like a fine rifle. Enjoy it.
