OK, got my beautiful new Bulgy 74 (thanks, jnewt!) and plan on buying blank receiver from bentmetal. The front trunnion block on the barrel assembly still has remnants of rivets in holes; I can drill through the 2 rear holes all the way through and tap them, but the two sets near the front present a problem since I certainly don't want to drill through the barrel.

I know the best way is to remove the barrel from the trunnion and drilling out the rivets, but is there any problem in just tapping fresh holes adjacent to the old riveted ones (thus not having to go through hassle of removing and repressing barrel)? Otherwise, how deep can I drill without hitting barrel?

What a stand-up guy! You got it.

I will pack it up and ship tomorrow. Either way, I have to wait for receiver.

Meanwhile...if you come across a tactical rail mount, shoot me an email (no pun intended).
