So my lovely wife gets me a handfull of Tapco mags for Christmas as they were on sale for $6 earlier this month on some website. Dang, those things are tight in my WASR! I usually use comblock mags, but thought it never hurts to have more mags, so I sent her a link to the sale. My WASR has zero wobble with metal mags, so these feel like they are a permanent part of the rifle when inserted, lol.

They go in with some force. I probably won't use these much accept to test for reliability and just to have. They seem made well.

So I take it they will loosen up some as the poly wears (as in shaves away!)?

Sorry for your loss, but those won't work in your gun, better send them to me! JK, I would think eventually they would loosen up.

Yes, they will "take shape" with use...I use them alot with good results...last year I went shooting when it was like 1 degree outside lol....I had a follower stick a little in one mag....took a file to it and was back in svc....I think they are decent mags overall.

Tapco mags aren’t the greatest magazines in the world, but they aren’t exactly “bad” either.  They tend to work and work pretty well.  They won’t take heavy abuse, but they will take a good deal of abuse and keep going.  For $6.00 per mag, how can you go wrong.  I’d say she did well; congrats.

Just don't drop the Tapcos on concrete, and you'll be fine. I wouldn't mind using them for range mags.

If an assault weapon magazine ban happens with an import ban those will be worth their weight in silver.

I saw some go on Gun Broker yesterday for over $40 a piece. Crazy.

I had to file the magazine catch lip on my tapco's a little, but they work really well in my M10. I think they are a heck of a deal.

There is at least one set of steel AK mag dies in the US, there was a gentleman on theakforum a few years ago who posted pictures when they arrived. He said he was waiting for imports to dry up or be cut off, as he could not compete with the cheap imports on price. It may take a while and they may be more expensive than they were before this craziness started but barring a ban on domestic production they will continue to be available.

For as low the expectation I had for them, they do work surprisingly well in my M-10.

Wish they had metal feedlips and locking plate, but for the price they are pretty nice.

As was said, I don't think they will hold up to torture testing, but good range mags none the less.

I think he is up the creek.  If they ban new manufacturing in the USA (as in the 94 ban), I'd imagine that just would happen just after Obumma bans imports of high cap mags for the 1-2 punches to us.

I don't know, I could see them trying to pass a total 94-style mag ban which dies in the House, followed by Obama banning mag imports by executive order. I don't claim to know what's coming next, but the above seems halfway plausible.

That is what I'm guessing, magazine imports along with "non-sporting rifles easily reconfigured" and possibly (less likely) ammunition.

Thoughts on hollow points? I think the left would love to see those banned and a lot on the right wouldn't feel like they could argue for those.

New 30 rounders were banned for 10 years during the 1994-2004 AWB for other than LEO/Military sales.  The manufacturers were running 24 hours around the clock making new ones until the ban took affect.  If a ban identical to the previous one take effect the guy with the dies for AK mags will have a nice paperweight.

I have more mags than I can ever use though I have sold 80% of the ones I have owned.  I only have 4 30 round mags for my S&W 5.45x39 AR15 upper though but I have heard PMAGS will function if unloaded.

I have a couple of AK drums and a big box of AK mags still in some calibers.  I might have to break them out and see exactly what I have.

I saw someone selling 5 Tapcos for $125.00 on the Equipment Exchange and a MAK90 for over $3000.00

I have a Saiga 7.62x39 with dimpled receiver, 20" barrel, bullet guide installed and the dragonuv type stock I was saving for a conversion but never got around to doing.  I should sell it.  I have enough Saigas already.

I have a group of Waffle style Tapco's.  I know everyone complains about them, but in all honesty I've never had any real issues with them. I've taken a few rifle classes where you run an gun. The waffles have never let me down. The only issue I've ever had was I had a tiny pebble get caught between a few rounds and had a failure to feed on that one. That was after the mag was buried in sand and gravel during a mag dump/check.  Mine originally were a bit tight but they molded fine, no play, nice tight fit.

Now I purchased a few "smooth side" Tapco's and those I had to grind down the rear tab just a little bit.  Best of luck...and for $6 you just can't go wrong.
