WHY IS OHIO SO FAR AWAY!!!! DAMN IT! DAMN IT TO HELL! /starts crying

Link Posted: 9/5/2004 2:58:37 PM EST
You know Sturmwehr, I was just thinkin' the same thing
Link Posted: 9/5/2004 3:03:17 PM EST
Exactly, man!

The "best" place to shop here is the Myrtle Beach Indoor Shooting Range... Where Post-Ban Bushmaster 15s are $1250 and Polytech AKs are $1100.

Seriously, the guy who owns that place is horrible. He's trying to sell some damn beat-up craptastical SKSs that were probably used as backstops for $275. He's just blantantly trying to rape gun owners of money...

KF - Ask for a price on the Bulgarian '74 with the wood furniture too

Sturmwehr - I've heard horror stories about the guy at Myrtle Beach Indoor - you're talking about the one near the air force base right?

You know, if the ORF guys listed more detail on their inventory of finished rifles on the web site, I bet it would really increase sales. Just about every thread I see that contains pics of ORF, there are at least two questions on the rifles in the pic.

I would be perpetually broke if ORF was near me. Very nice pics.

Anyone know what the gun is that is above the FAL and below the Garand in this pic?

M1A SOCOM?
Link Posted: 9/5/2004 3:36:25 PM EST
It's an M1A SOCOM.

Yep. Right on the money.

Todd or Mike, if you are out there, how do you like that gun? Or have you handled it in detail at all?
Link Posted: 9/5/2004 5:29:05 PM EST
Though I will admit I have no experience with one, here's my take.

Seems kinda stupid to shorten down an M1A at all. If they're trying to out CQB the M4 then they're never going to succeed. The 308 is going to pack too much punch for quick follow-up shots. Plus, by shortening the barrel you take away one of the M1A's best attributes, it's awesome accuracy.

However, since I've never used the SOCOM M1A my opinion is just that....pure opinion.

Springfield is trying to get in on some of the "tactical" market. Its also kind of niche for guys who want tactical but feel .223 is too small. Granted follow up shots suck, but if your shot is on the mark the first time you dont need to double tap. Barrel length has nothing to do with accuracy, and everything to do with muzzle speed. These guns are very accurate and have very very very good muzzle breaks. When I shot it the muzzle seemed to dip with every shot. I'm not a fan of the M1 design but these are great guns. I'm not an M1 or a .30 cal basher, I just dont care for the M1 myself. I do love its history, and it seems to be getting better with each revision, just not my thing. You can get them with all sorts of rails and mount points.

On a side note, good work ORF. You guys never cease to amaze me.

Agreed. I have handled one and it was balanced quite nicely. I only wish SA did not use a majority of cast parts like they do now.
