The R4 / 5 / 6 series is a licensed copy of the Galil made by Vektor / Denel (Land Systems) in Lyttelton, outside Pretoria. There are a few differences, such as a slightly longer stock which uses polymer struts, but they are essentaitly the same weapon. The "LM" series is semi-auto only and widely distributed to law enforcement agencies within SA.
Supposedly, there have been none made in several years and the production line is shut down. I have never seen nor heard of any complete R or LM series rifles that were imported here, but I am certainly no expert, so a few may have managed to get in somehow. There are both steel and polymer magazines available, but the polymer mags do not have a good reputation in SA as they eventually crack around the feed lips. The quality of soldier turned out by the SANDF is a far cry from what the old SADF placed into service, and the new guys are hard on equipment. Many police and armed security guards beat the holy Hell out of their gear and do virtually no maintenance, yet the rifles still usually run well if fed decent ammo.
Never heard of Lynette Engineering. Google for the R4 / 5 links...there are a few out there, but Denel is very serious and tight-lipped about security of information on their facilities and products.
