What's the best way to shorten the shaft of the gas piston for a pistol build?

Have someone make you a custom one, hotbarrel over on gunco makes them for 20 bucks shipped. For that price i wouldnt even think about modifying one myself. McM

20 bucks is not bad at all, as long as the working end is chromed...

I make mine by cutting and facing (in a lathe) the back end, then cut the front end a little long and face it off making sure it fits perfectly. Then I chamfer the edges, clamp them in the lathe (holds them concentric) and weld...

Definitely more work than $20, but it gets done in house...

Hotbarrel's pistons are stainless steel. McM

Depending on what kind of stainless it is, could be fine for a gas piston...

I still would prefer hard chrome though, due to higher corrosion resistance...
