I have a SAR. Runs like there's no tomorrow. NEVER EVER had a stoppage. Anybody else own one? I bought mine back during the AWB era. It's been a real good runner for sure.

Good to hear so many like their SAR-1 AK-47. What makes the SAR-1 so popular? Is it the quantity available? The price? Quality???

Price is good, reliability excellent, overall quality of the details not so good, on the whole, a very good buy, and they come with the side rail for optics which is a plus

SAR-1's are no longer imported.  The last ones came in around the end of 2003 so the supply is limited.

They also have the dimples above the mag well, the WASR does not.

Mines sitting around 14,000 rounds spent with 0 issues, never jammed ever.  Buy one if you have the chance.

It's funny how they're considered the good ones now, but the WASR's definitely were another drop in fit, metal finish and wood, and on rare occassions reliability.

Bought a Sar-1   Bought at a local gun show for $ 150.  Was new but had a few problems.

1.  Bent gas piston.
2. Hammer and sear weren't cut right.
3.  Lower fore grip was split.

All were easy fixes.  I did the barrel work.

I've got an '01 SAR-1.
A friend (who is more of an AK nut than I) also has a SAR-1 and several other "higher end" AKs.

Both of us would grab the SAR-1s if there was an emergency...

Man, I'm liking this thread, picked up a SAR-1 Monday from a friend of a friend with five thirty's, one ten, a real nice case and a couple hundred rounds.

My 2001 SAR1 runs like a top.

Did have an issue with one mag that was a dud and got rid of it.

I did add a folder to it.

I will not sell this one!!
