Took my Tantal out yesterday and had some old lacquer-cased 5.45 rounds left that I wanted to get rid of. Loaded them up and started firing them. After about 10 rounds there was a failure to extract. The casing was stuck in the chamber. I knocked it out and started up again. Then it happened again. This time I noticed a bunch of this gooey carbon buildup on the casing. Any idea where it came from?

Was the rifle cleaned before you shot the lacquer cased stuff?

Clean the chamber really good and shoot it again.

this. Also do you have a US barrel on that tantal?

I had a Century Arms Tantal with a US - non chromed barrel and I had 4 stuck cases from powder fouling shooting 400 rounds of Tula ammo.  I bought it for $375 and sold it shortly after for $350.  I believe the tight chamber and non-chromelined barrel resulted in increased powder fouling / stuck cases condition.  I never had this happen with any other AK that had a chrome lined barrel.  If you clean the chamber it should be fine - it might break itself in as well.

same thing happened to me, actually had to kick open the bolt to extract the round, I cleaned the living hell out of the chamber and gun itself, and to this day no issues

I don't regard this as a rifle failure, rather an operational issue caused by negligence. Use Wolf Performance ammo if that's what it wants.

That's usually what I shoot out of it, or surplus 7N6 without issues. The rounds were actually really old Wolf with the lacquer coated casings.

Lacquer is the norm though. Did you really scrub the chamber prior to firing? Every time i've read threads like this involving lacquer cases, the solution always turned out to be REALLY clean the chamber. That usually resolved it.

It's not a real factory AK. There I diagnosed and fixed the problem.

That's what's weird. I fired 7N6 out of it right afterwards without issue. Might've been the ammo rather than the rifle. Oh well, I got rid of it all!
