variant in 223 with black furniture...

What make and model should I get? I've spent SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo much time with AR's I'm afraid I'm a little on the ignorant side regarding AK's. I'd like a 223 to keep the ammo stock simple.

Thanks guys. Figure I'd try and cut to the core and go buy one!!!!

I'd venture to say a Saiga conversion would be fun. What I'd like to do with it is attach two 30 round mags together and keep it in the safe. It'd be more of a camp plinking gun, with the option of using it as a truck gun. Plus, I don't have an AK variant in my collection of AR's and FAL's. I must have one!

Definately want it in 223 - all black. I'd like to learn more about the AK-USA models. I assume the SAR3 is the cheap way out? I wouldn't mind spending 4-500 on a good model. Fit and finish is always a concern. The rifle gets more action from me taking it in and out of the safe than when I'd take it to the range!

Advice is welcome, especially from Campybob.

Best bet would be the SAR3 and a K-var black stock set and an RSA trigger group. K-vars .223 kits alone are $429.00.

I'm a former AR15 geek too. I decided to get an AK in a real AK caliber and that was 5.45 for me. Nothing wrong with the SAR3 in 223 if you gotta be a 1 caliber guy I suppose...

But once you get the AK, your perceptions will change a bit and you will find you like the thing even though it is not all forged and fitted pretty like an AR. The AK's just like to shoot with whatever ammo you feed 'em!

Be a little open minded and look at some of the nice wood stocks these guys here at 'the dark side of arfcom' have refinished themselves or the plum or o.d. green stocks too... Black is available too if you insist.

A custom built AK is really nice if you can wait up to several months, or the Arsenal (out of Las Vegas) are good stuff too. These run $500 and up. A SAR3 can be had for perhaps $350 in your hands.

Yep - should fit nicely under your budget of <$500.

Enjoy an AK for what it is...

7.62x39... real AK round... cheap as hell, and potent/fun.

Sar or WASR-10 high cap... =)

Wolf 7.62x39 is cheaper than low end (wolf) .223, and more powerful... for blowing stuff up,
