you like them the rest of us are probably going to ignore you for it however.

a scoped AK is not a "sniper rifle"  a rifle being operated by a trained sniper is.  the 7.62x39 makes for a dismal sniper round due to crappy loading in the ammo and the fact that it drops like a rock past 200 meters.  it does however make for a great short range deer round.

What is interesting however is that U.S. snipers in Iraq report that almost all of their shot are under 200m.

Yeah, but I challenge ANYONE to consistantly hit someone in the eyeball at 200meters with an AK.  That is the difference.  The AK-47 is an effective spray and pray weapon.  An accurate Lead Delivery Sniper Platform it is not.

Yes but it's suprising how many people can't believe their AK is a 4 moa weapon !!

This is why the Russians use 7.62x54r in the SVD and other Sniper Rifles.

AK sniper rifle?  Is that the rifle you use when your scoped, gold plated desert eagle with a bipod runs out of ammo?  AKs are for poor people, not snipers.

At 200 meters with mil/surp or mil issue ammo?  You're kidding right?  If not, I need to re-evaluate an AK.

well, that means it's mechanically capable of shooting an 8-inch group at 200 meters... that seems like pretty typical AK accuracy to me

The 5.45mm rifles can get to (and under) the 4 MOA figure you're quoting.  I will agree that I haven't seen the 7.62 AKs do it though.  Maybe the VEPRs or Saigas or better grade AKs?

I have a 3 X 9 power Leupold scope on my Sar-2 (5.45 X 39) rifle and was getting 2-3 MOA. This is with letting the barrel cool off between shots. I was very impressed. Ammo was Barnaul 55 grain soft points.

I use a posp 4x24 scope on my Sar-1.  It's an awsome combo.

I do shoot the "Mini Pin" competitions, but I also just "Practice Shoot" at an Outdoor Public Range (100 yds). As far as your first statement, I have 4 friends (witnesses) that would agree with YOU about an AK being a sniper rifle! I shot a FRESH "RED" APPLE (Try THAT with a "RED DOT"! I DARE YOU!) that was sitting on the ground, at 100 YDS., and I put "30 RDS" into it, WHILE IT WAS STILL ROLLING!

This was all done with Wolf ammo.  Man, that stuff is the shit!

instead of giving the man a fish, why don't you teach him how to get his own.

LEET speak

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet

it can be as differnt ad substituting a 4 for an A (they look similar. Or as weird as spelling half a sentence with /\ [ | % //\|//| and stuff like that.

E = 3

H = #

K = %

| \/\/ ||| %||| U = I will kill you

/\|| U N33d is |u \ / 3 =  all you need is love

etc, use your imagination.

oh yeah and it can only be a true "sniper" AK if you have a collapseable AR15 stock on it.

and you need an AR15 style pistol grip, and an A2 flash hider.  otherwise its just not a "sniper" ready rifle

Well guess I'll throw my 2 cents in.

The most "Accurate" 7.62x39mm AK I've ever seen was a NHM-91 with a side-mounted non-military hunting scope. ( I forget the brand )

It easily shot 2-3" groups at 200 yards with Chinese FMJ ammo ( was a few years ago ). This was shot from a bench at a range with the AK resting on sandbags.

Supposedly IRAQ made a scoped long barrel 7.62x39mm "sniper" AK. I've seen a few pics here and there. While it's not exactly a sniper weapon, I would not like to be a trooper over there being shot at with one in the hands of a somewhat "good shot" rebel insurgent.

actually, after the first hit, it would be realatively easy to hit it again, as it would be spread out over a 10 foot radius... rather hard to miss teh apple after that. I would say ...

t#@t       ${ [] p 3    1$    t3#     $#!4  I once took my 2 MOA sks with open sights, put a receiver cover mount and a 4 power on it, and turned it into a 12 MOA sniper rifle.  but at least it still shot better than that 303 british I had, where you could drop a bullet down the barrle and hear it rattle it's way down, it was about a 1000 MOA scoped out sniper rifle.

Doesn't "Sniper" mean "firing from cover"?

After all, the sniper in Full Metal Jacket used an AK.
