Here's some before and after pics. This is a 1953 Tula that I picked up at a gunshow. The receiver cover has "1953r" stamped on it. Any idea what the "r" is for?

I had plans to sand and refinish the stocks because I just love that Russian laminate. After the gun show and under better lighting, I examined and thoroughly cleaned the rifle. Little specs of rust were starting to develope in the crevaces. I also noticed that the laminates were begining to degrade on the inside. I was disappointed to say the least. I ordered an ATI Fiberforce stock and bayonet lug mount bipod.
