Heads up Mosin shooters, AIM and SGammo has 1946-1947 Russian made 7,62x54R on stripper clips. The clips are worth the price of the ammo. Also it's lead core for you guys with range restrictions.  Got mine from SGammo $80 shipped to my door for 300rds on 60 clips. I didn't need more '54R but the clips (Izhesvk marked) are worth it. Mine is headstamped 188 over 47. Thought I'd pass it along.

I noticed the manufacture dates listed on AIM and SGAmmo were set just after WWII. With the ammo being close to 70 years old, would there be a problem with the ammo not functioning properly?

I realize some calibers have some really old surplus that work fine, but wouldn't it be worth it to buy/stockpile newer manufacture ammo, say from the 70s and 80s surplus?

I just got a 91/30, so I'm still saving for some ammo and want to get the best and not run into any poor ammo. I'm looking at 70/80s surplus in 880rd crates.

Haven't got a chance to shoot mine yet , but reviews from others have been positive. Properly stored ammo with corrosive primers will last over 100 years. The clips alone make getting at least one tin worth it, then you could stock the newer stuff and reuse the clips. Before this original russian clips were demanding $5 a piece if you could even find them.

Mine is 47. They maybe marked very light? Where would it be, on the back of the stripper.

Nope.......a magnet placed on the bullet tip will pick up the cartridge.

Got my today.  Spent half hour to get the can open.  Look like good ammo.  Load a few clip into my two Mosin Nagant, and seem to function well enough.

I made a scan of the back of the clips.
there is only 1 mark on mine.

My son got back from a shooting weekend camping trip and he says that the 1947 Russian ammo gave him problems with extraction (using his Mosin Nagant). He said that the effort to open the bolt and extract the empty cases was way harder vs. the Bulgarian ammo. There were times when he had to slap the bolt handle several times with a good amount of force. But it shot fine. No accuracy tests on paper were conducted. But, to him it was GTG for plinking on a soda can at 75 yds. or a muffler at 100 yds.

I'll still have to try it with the PSL before I decide to purchase more.

The few I looked over have none or very faint/half marks on the clips.

I shot some the other day in a M39, no issues, seemed to be a little hotter (more of a kick) than the standard stuff or maybe it was from not shooting the Mosin in a while. I was getting 1in to 1.5in 5 round groups at 50 yards & I am by no means a great shot especially w/ iron sights.

Mine is stamped 47. Interesting feeling opening up a sealed can that is 65 years old.

Range Report: Just got back from the range. Fired 60 rds. of my 188 over 47 Russian ammo. 30 rds. through my 91/30 and 30 rds. through my M44. No hangfires, no split cases, no sticky bolt. All rounds fired as the should and extracted without a problem. A little more accurate out of the 91/30 than LPS ammo, nice fireball from M44.Some clips are alittle stiff and take some pressure to load. All in all I'm satisfied, hard to believe this ammo is 65 years old, simply amazing. The oder smells like vinegar to me.

I had one can smell strongly of pine and the other had a horrible mildew smell, a very small amount of water had leaked in during storage. Other than some real light surface rust on about 15% of the clips, the ammo looked good to go.

I just got my order from SGAmmo. Quick ship. Can seemed in good order, no leaks or other seal damage. Ammo looks fresh and almost brand new. I'll try it out tomorrow.

My question, has anyone stacked this ammo into a .30cal ammo can? If so, how many could you fit on stripper clips still in the cardboard box? I've only been able to get 11 out of 20 boxes to fit in my .30cal ammo can. Just seeing if anyone else had some ideas.

Thanks.
