Looking at the Black Friday deals at Classic Firearms and came across the Riley Defense RAK-47 for $599.00. Good price for an AK these days but I have never heard of this manufacturer. The price point is in the I.O. and RAS range, which is worrisome. Anyone ever heard of these?

Anybody know anything about them?  They look nice enough (blued, which is kind of weird), but they have a strange blurb about a "machines forging" bolt.

This rifle is Riley Defense's version of the classic AK-47 rifle in semi automatic mode. Chambered in 7.62x39 caliber each of the rifles is custom hand built and finished and the attention to detail shows. The bolt is a machines forging. The trunion is riveted and then barrel is installed. The alloy used is 4140 chrome moly steel. Each rifle comes complete with one 30 round mag and includes an integrated scope rail. Rifles accept all high cap mags and drums. Each rifle comes with scope mount rail on the left side of the receiver, an extend mag release, and a bolt hold open safety. Comes with 1-30 rd magazine . It measures 35.25” in overall length. Rifle carries a 2 year warranty from Riley Defense.
A note about the metal finish.-These rifles feature a true dark black really smooth and consistent gun metal blued finish on all of their metal surfaces. The camera we have does not do it justice but Riley has achieved one of the nicer finishes in the industry on these rifles. Nice rivet work too with rivets being seated properly with no distortion.
Really good attention to detail. I think you will really like these rifles.

reads like a Nigerian scam email, I would look elsewhere until more info is gathered.

Looks suspiciously like an IO Inc rifle.
Their manufacturer info is printed Charlotte NC and the old IO Inc factory was right next door at Monroe NC - did Riley Defense purchase their old shop and employees?
Riveting is a little goofy.
Never heard of Riley Defense.

But hey at least it comes with a front trunnion riveted to the receiver and a barrel installed.

Thread on this over on akfiles, concensus is I.O. switched names again to try and sucker some more people into buying their garbage. Someone even looked up names and last name of owner/operator is the same as the I.O. guy.

I wouldn't chance it, too many other great choices out there.

Yeah this is what I posted over there:

Whois information for the domain:

Registrant Name: KARIM KHEIREDDINE
Registrant Organization:
Registrant Street: 2975 INTERSTATE STREET
Registrant City: CHARLOTTE
Registrant State/Province: North Carolina

Ramzi Kheireddine was head engineer at I.O. last time I had any contact with them. According to Linkedin, Ramzi is no longer with I.O. and now lives in NC. My guess is that Karim is a relative.

I'd run far and fast from these builds.  If the pictures below are from what they are using to showcase their work, I can only imagine what the average buyer will be receiving.

Metatron's post from AKFiles . . .

Quoted:I took a look at only one of the rifles on their website here is what I notice

strange crease marks on the rsb,  T guard metal and mag catch look paper thin.  If you notice the mag catch doesn't engage the magazine.   Odd coloration on the gas tube?  looks like someone missed a few times pinning the fsb.

I checked the other rifles, all the mag catches have a large gap in their engagement.  This will cause a failure to feed if there is any downward play in the seating of the magazine..

Riley Defense is a new up start . We have been aware of their project for over a year just received a sample gun in for review and testing .We have been slammed with last minute California orders and not had time to take her to the range yet . We will post some detailed pics in the near future .

Well.... let them know they have an open offer for a test/review on my channel if they're up to it

I'd hope they wouldn't be using aluminum for the front trunnion.

This was posted over on AKFiles, cast trunnions

There's also ties to the old N.C. I.O. operation it seems. Wouldn't bother with these myself.

It would be a step up from the pot-metal they previously used.
