Here it is installed on my underfolder.  Does the size and shape look correct to yall?  It seems a bit large to be correct to me.

It is made in Taiwan, not USA.

It matches the dresser better than the handguards.

I bought the Taiwan repo 74 handguards from Copes but they did not fit my Arsenal.  The tab was too large and I grinded it down, but then found out the depth of the lower handguard
is not deep enough. It will take some significant wood removal to get them to work. I must say though that they are some of the prettiest laminate
handguards that I have seen. A Romy grip would look better on your rifle IMHO.

The Russians used the wood grip on the first few batches of 74's they ran off.  By the time they came into Afghanistan they were using the Bakelite grips like the other AKM's you saw.  That's more of a late 60's, early 70's grip primarily used on the AKMS, which is what you're going for (although the AKMS that Russia made had a straight stock instead of angled).  Here's an example of mine to use as referernce if you can tell in the photo.....

And a better example from our good friend Tantal at Avtomats in Action...

Link to Tantal's site which will provide you with more referencing information than anywhere I can think of on the web.

I bet that is a grip reinforcing plate.

gotcha - i can see the tab now behind the trigger guard.  The rough grinding marks on the sides looked like wood grain.
