How does one remove the plastic handguard. Just got an Apex forend group.

Various methods depending on how tight they are on the tube.

Hold the handguard in your hand, put a wrench on the flats of the gas tube, and turn the wrench 180 degrees.

If they are tight/stubborn, put the flats of the gas tube in a vice and turn the handguard off with your hand.

If really tight/stubborn, put the gas tube flats in said vice and turn the handguard off with a strap wrench.

It takes pure brute force to do it.

I had the same problem with mine... Removing AND installing the handguard

They will come off if secured in a vise.  Wrap a rag around the gas tube to protect the finish and tighten only enough to keep the gas tube from turning.  Then grasp firmly around the handguard and twist off.

Excellent!  The wood looks much better than the plastic crap they came with.
