I ordered 2 Romainian AK kits from AIM today (actually, me and 2 buddies ordered 6 together).  My plan was to do the "home-brew" receiver build, but after much research today I may resort to buying an assembled Ewbanks receiver.  Is it really as difficult to build as these it appears?  They look to be a hellofalot more involved than your run of the mill AR build.  I like the idea of making my own, but I can't see sinking the big bucks into jigs and fixtures to do a couple AK's.  I appreciate your responses/opinions.

I have a real similar question...I would like to do a build or 2 from flats but I need to know what all is involved.

I do not need a step-by-step set of instructions on what to do, just a summary of all the operations involved. At a glance it looks like just making 2 90-degree bends but maybe there is more to it? Are the "rails" for optics or something else?

OK, the welding leaves me out. I'll be looking up some finished receivers, then. Thanks.

If you are ordering a receiver, get one from Scott at DPH Arms.  I have heard good things about the Ewbanks receivers.
