It was this Friday night. Me and my wife were coming home form the Casino around midnight. We live in a loop, on a dead end road by downtown. While I was driving , about 50 ft from the turn in to go home, I see guy in lowrider car, leaning out of the drivers side window with a pistol in his hand, turning into our loop.Shocked by what might a drive by shooting by my home, I block the loop entrance with my car and turn on the high beams, while Iwas doing this the guy jumped out the car runs to the house, which is two up form ours, trys to break in,pulls out his handgun and is going to fire at the door,Just then, he realizes that we are there watching.Me and My wife carry kel tec 380's,a good handgun in close quarters only 5 to 7 feet.In the car I normally carry my AK 47 underfolder. We had been shoting it a lot at the range and I took it out to clean it and didnt put it back in,My frist and last big mistake.I also keep a CZ 52 for back up in my vehicle.Well, when the bad guy saw us,he starts running towards us,I tell my wife grab the CZ,By the time she gets it , hes already pretty close. So I slam the car in reverse haul ass backwards for about 70 yards and he is still runnig after us.But I have gained enough time to clear the gun of the holster, open the door used it as shield and yelled at the guy to freeze. He then starts running to an empty lot,but before he clears the corner he fires several rounds towards our direction that hit the street.

People think Iam paranoid for owning a lot of firearms and keeping them around me like matches. The moment I let my gaurd down this what happens.Today at the range I and my wife driiled ourselves thru this secenario, but now I added the shotgun to the car

man I dont know about blocking his path...got a cell phone????? More than likely seeing as how you could get away if you would have shot that POS you would be the one hung out to dry. kinda hard to say not being in that particular situation..if I would have been alone i might did as you but not with my wife in the car.

I normally carry my AK 47 underfolder.

Don't leave it in your car. Someday, somebody is going to run off with that thing.
Please tell me you don't go in and out of your house on a daily basis with your AK under your arm.
No wonder people carry guns around you.

Dont forget the shotgun, that I also keep in the mini van.Go to Cabellas look at there concelead rifle racks. For those of you who are concerned about that.I modified the van to carry them,it is unnoticied when looking in thru the window,That is the main reason why Iam kicking myself in the ass for not having it.
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 11:31:56 AM EDT
Oh yeah!I wave the guns around in the air everytime, I take them in and out of the car..I will not change my habits,I will not be caught ungunned again. Get it!

Nothing dramatic like that ever happens to me, guess that's goodness then
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 12:00:45 PM EDT
Situations like this are "fluid"at best, you did OK,you and your Wife were able to walk away. For future reference, always give your adversary a way out, most of the time, they'll take flight rather than fight.

This kind of thing happens all over the Country and in all levels of Neighborhoods, the Bad Guys don't always hit their own neighborhoods.

You'll also need to stay vigilant, this Guy may want some payback.

I agree.. Instead of wasting money at the casino, waste it on rent/house payments in a better area. Or to pay for college so you can move into a nicer area.

Gillakid,

Somebody has to say this. I vote for me.

You're a cranially challenged sexual reproductive act. Your first responsibility is to your wife. You're darn tootin lucky her internal organs aren't all over the inside of your car, count your blessings. Less thoughful folks like yourself should try to stay as far away from a precision lead dispersal device as you possibly can. Sounds like the precision lead dispersal devices you own are more of a danger to you than anyone else.

All you excitable types feel better? I'm tuning into Air America for some conditioning now.

I do believe you need to calm your ass down. Could it be that his wife is well trained and knows how to handle a firearm. Sure looks like it to me from reading his post. If that is the case, he has done well in insuring his wife is safer and protected. If you think that a woman should not be able to defend herself, then you sir are a stupid %$(*.

Time to stop being a cop wannabe, you don't block the bad guys car with your car and put your wife and self in a position to get killed. Anyone that says different is an idiot.

Down here in Arizona a couple of years ago a car was parked on a street with a guy inside. Homeowner decides he is a cop wannabe and walks down and tells the guy to move as cop wannabe didn't want him parked on his street. Guy told him to mind his own business. Cop wannabe goes and gets his .22 rifle and comes back and point it at the guy in the car. Undercover officer on a stakeout promptly shoots the cop wannabe dead.

Use a phone next time, get the license number and discription. Use your firearms for self defense and don't play Starsky and Hutch with your wife in the car.

Pal, you are missing the point completly. Think about this. Read my post again and see if you can possibly understand the spirit of what I am trying to convey. The original poster made no remark eluding to self defense, only self destruction. I suspect one day he will be on the evening news, either horizontally, or in orange unless he wises up.

Selectfire, your attitude doesn't sound very consistent with preparedness.. I go in and out of my dwelling regularly with my car-rifle under my arm when I need to clean it, or transport it, or whatever. During those times when for whatever reason I only have one operational long-gun, it pulls double-duty as my trunk-gun and my bedside weapon. I therefore do have to transport it in and out of my house all the time. A discreet gym bag usually suffices.

GillaKid, I'll have to agree that you're very lucky, and while I admire your mindset, you need to go a step further with your preparedness.
1) Always, Always, always, expect that something like this will happen. When least expected, you're elected. Wouldn't you know it, the DAY you neglected to put your AK in the car, you really needed it.

2) Don't kid yourself by only carrying a P3AT. Buy and carry a REAL gun. ALWAYS. Unless you're going swimming, or into a sauna or something, there's no excuse for being that underarmed. If you absolutely MUST carry a deep-cover gun, I recommend something like a Kahr PM9. If you're strapped for cash, move up to a CW9 or Keltec P11.

3) Don't carry a mouse gun on your hip with the delusional thought that "your real gun is in the car." I've met a lot of guys, cops included, who do that, and it's dumb dumb dumb. I think you've learned that. Even a 2" j-frame can be very accurate at long ranges single-action. They're cheap too. If you can't hit at 25yds with it, don't rely on it as a weapon. You would have been justified at shooting this guy, and I think you should have, but I'm not a lawyer.

4) Trapping the guy was not your priority. Defending your family and your home should be. You should not have deliberately blocked the exit. In fact, you should have escaped and called the cops. If you're not a cop, SURVIVAL is your first priority.

5) He's STILL OUT THERE!! Be ready for him. I guarantee if he is looking to come back, he'll be ready for YOU!

You didn't ahve that CZ52 in the original Flap holster did you? A suicide holster?

otherwise, I would have done something, nutbag with a firearm in my neighbourhood (not just a firearms owner, but soemone brandishing and trying to force themselves into another's house) I woudl have called 911, and armed my wife, and my self. If I lived in aplace where I could carry a pistol in my car I probably would have done the same thing as he did.

No problem with the discussion but it seems to be rapidly degenerating into a name calling bash session. The point can get across in written language without the excessive profanity.

Please stop bashing this guy. He is an Adult and able to make his own decisions, whether right or wrong. You all have the right to say whatever you want, but some of these things you are saying are uncivilized. I do not totally agree with what he did. However, I think it is more than okay to defend someone else's life especially your neighbor. Wouldn't you want your neighbor to defend you? If he had called the police and not taken action his neighbors might have been dead before they arrived. While on the same note him and his wife could have been killed. Members of law enforcement are people to, they hesitate, they make mistakes, they get scared, they are however people with a sworn duty. They are not super heroes. I don't think you should depend on law enforcement to save the day at all times. If you will not use your firearm to save a life, what would you use it for? I just wanted to throw this into the pot, since everyone else voiced their opinion.

Wow.

I believe it is the job of everyone to take ownership of their neighborhoods. I commend you for doing so, although I would not have chosen the same methods as you.

Your pro-active conduct may very well have saved the life of the person that was the target of this late night visit. Unfortunately, he's probably some punk-ass gangster who needed to get shot anyway.

I won't monday morning quarterback your actions (while I give you your props for having testicular fortitude), think of that Buick you're driving as a Weapon of Mass Destruction.

Run his punk ass over. Unless you live in a new england state, I'm pretty sure you'd have been good to go.

Link Posted: 10/2/2005 10:08:18 PM EDT
I commend most of his actions. Might have done a few things differently, maybe. The point is, to be prepared! I finally started carrying some protection at work. The 10 years I'v been working here I have been threatened 4 times with guns. My company has zero tolerance for weapons at work(I'm a truck driver, drive 3 trips a week to texas and Louisiana) and will fire anyone caught with a weapon. I'v only been packing for a week, and already averted a major ass-wulping or worse. Last wed. night in Ft. Worth, I was accosted by a heavily muscled up guy in his 20's at a truckstop, who wanted me to step down from my truck so he could rearrange my face and body. Now me, I like to think my years of military service would serve me well in this situation, but in all truth, if you can visualise Santa Clause without the red suit, that would describe me. So, I stuck my Gov. Model 1911 in my waist band belt, and stood up in the door frame of the truck so he could see the 1911. Man, talk about an attitude change! He had been jumping up and down like a rabbit, pumping his arms like a boxer, and demanding I step down, plus spitting on the truck and calling me every name in the book. Upon seeing the 1911, he shut up, turned away, and walked off. After this, I think I'll take the firing rather than leave home without a gun.

Being prepared to defend yourself, such as you did, is different than acting like a cowboy at the OK corral where stray shots could go through some kids bedroom window in a residential neighborhood. When you take it upon yourself to get into a gun fight, you've got to be prepared to take the punishment if your actions end up killing some innocent kid looking out the window of their bedroom.

Someone breaks into my house, one of us is going to be carried out. I once went into someone's apartment and dragged a guy off of my neighbor after he had busted into the neighbor's apartment and was attempting to kill him (17 years ago). I had someone call 911 then went in and pulled the guy off and he proceeded to attack me threatening to kill me. We ended up on the floor and he had his hands around my neck.

I punched him in the temple, put him in a choke hold and put him to sleep. When he came to, he attacked me again, so he went to sleep again. I then restrained him on the floor until the first officer showed up. I got the female officer to give me her handcuffs and 2 more officers show up and they take the guy out to the patrol car. I find out later that night that he had to be taken to the hospital and resuscitated as my repeated choke holds nearly killed him. If he would have died I might have got into trouble. When I learned to use a choke hold in law enforcement training they told us it could kill someone even if applied correctly.

The local police chief told my Captain I did a good job, but what would have been the response if the guy would have died? The guy whose apartment was broken into turned out to be screwing the other guy's wife at the time and she was there. She was an ugly little troll also. 19 years in law enforcement field and I retire in 3 years. I don't go out of my way to find trouble with young punks, that is what 911 is for.

Also, he never broke into the house he was trying to because he was being watched. I figure you'd be a good neighbor. If calling the police is the answer to all problems like this, why don't all you nay sayers just keep your guns locked up? It's easy to second guess and criticsize away from the excitement. Bottom line is he stopped the crime from being committed, and everyone is okay. Thanks for sharing your story.

I don't know about blocking his path but I would have drawn my weapon and put some cover between me and the bad guy. If I had family in the car, I would not try to confront but I would get a license plate number and call the cops.

You guys make fun of the guy for being a "cop" wannabe in this situation.

Most of the harsh comments seem to come from the "Judge and jury" wannabes
on the board. I think HE did what HE thought was right in the situation.

It is a judgement call any way you look at it. If he had kept driving and ignored the situation
(the air america solution) the dirtbag with the gun might have broken in to the house and shot and
killed someone. Yes, he probably put himself and wife in some jeopardy, but that is part of
making decisions in life. Everytime you get in a car and drive, cross the street, take a walk,
you make a decision to place your person in jeopardy. The degree might be different on for each
situation, but you take a risk none the less.
Probably calling the police would have been a good idea too, but the guy would have been
gone by the time they arrived.

I would have loved to see the look on the dirtbags face when he ran up and sees an AK leveled at him...

Might have been one of those "priceless" moments.

Gotta chime in here. A good case study with interesting responses. Why not dump the wife, go in with horn blaring and high beams on the perp. Don't quit moving and if he fires on ya then run over the bastid if poss. If must, shoot back otherwise withdraw. That would protect the wife, waken everyone in the neighborhood to do as they may, highlight the perp and offer the greatest protection to you while doing what you could short of commiting suicide legally or virtually. Having said that its really hard to do the untrained response when things "slow down"............

Most states say it has to be a situation where you are in fear of death or bodily harm AND it has to be a situation in which a reasonable person would believe to be in danger. So you cant say that clown with the dog baloon made you fear for your life, because when you shoot him the 'reasonable people' on the jury are going to vote to strap you in a chair and flip the switch.

Well he said the guy had a gun and was coming his way so YES shoot the bastard. I would treat him like a charging bear one in the head. Your friend would have to make that choice her self . I suggest you don't post on this message board that you have a gun at work! You may think your posting is somehow anonymous, but I assure you as an IT person, that it is not.

While I was driving , about 50 ft from the turn in to go home, I see guy in lowrider car, leaning out of the drivers side window with a pistol in his hand, turning into our loop.Shocked by what might a drive by shooting by my home, I block the loop entrance with my car and turn on the high beams, while Iwas doing this the guy jumped out the car runs to the house, which is two up form ours, trys to break in,pulls out his handgun and is going to fire at the door,Just then, he realizes that we are there watching.Me and My wife carry kel tec 380's,a good handgun in close quarters only 5 to 7 feet.

Almost seems like you have been waiting for something like this to happen, and one might argue you wanted something like this to happen considering how "prepared" you are. Glad nobody was hurt. Like someone else said, I would watch your back from now on.

They say it's always best to defend yourself with a standard handgun, like a revolver, because in front of a jury it looks more like self defense than does yanking out an AK or an Uzi. I always think about standing in court defending my actions. Like when you are packing so many guns, blocking a perps exit, involved in something that really wasn't a direct threat to you, a Jury could probably find fault in this situation if someone was shot. Just my $.02.

Reminds me of a time I was driving down the interstate... a group of guys with AKs were at the side of the road shooting up the cars as they drove by. I slammed on my brakes and jumped over the seat and grabbed my 50cal BMG I keep in the back just in case I run into trouble.

I broke out the glass in the back of my Expedition and took position off the left side of the truck.

I took aim and then....

<BR>

the darned alarm clock went off.....

Shit, try like I might I couldn't get back to the fight

Too cold during the winter time for me. But you can move here and enjoy the beach.

Glad that things turned out to be all right.

Did you call the police afterwards? I'd recommend leaving the pocket pistol in the glovebox and getting a good sized Glock. Good luck.
