Hi all.

Just wanted to post a few pics of my Vepr Super .308 wich I guess is rather rare in the US?
Rifle modified with handguard vents, freefloating barrel, glassbedded receiver, adjustable trigger (PowerCustom) and modified scoperail to accept LARGE scopes.
This rifle shoots 1/2MOA groups with the right ammo (Lapua Scenar) when I do my job behind it...

Other equipment:

Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x56 with Tenebraex ARD
Anticant bubble level
Parker-Hale Bipod
BR Reflex T8 telescopic supressor
Gen 3 NVRS Nightvision (Not in pic)
Dillon XL650 to feed the beast

I am currently working on carbon fiber composite furniture for this rifle. This will be a seriously tactical "sniper" stock with adjustable buttplate (lenght, height) and adjustable cheek rest.

Stay tuned...http://www.sluttstykket.com/blinkskudd/albums/userpics/10230/normal_P8230316.JPG

Real nice Marc, Molot does have a model called the Vepr Tactical, it has won many compititions, kind of set up just like yours. I will have to work on scooping up a super vepr when available.

I would like a view on how the scope mount attaches.

OK, no prob. I have some closeups of the rail wich also shows the mod I have done to it:

In the front end (to the left in pic), there is internal "dovetail cuts" in each side of the rail, and an excenter axle rotated by a lever (shown in the upper left part of the pic). This axle rises the rail and securley "clamps" it by mating these cuts to the cuts in the receiver. In the back there is a similar arrangement with cuts in the railsupport wich grips to a "wing" welded to each side of the receiver.
Did that make sense?hinking.gif

This attachment is ROCK SOLID without any POI shifts after dismounting / mounting!

If you want me to take aditional shots of the rail / receiver, just let me know.

You can also see that I have milled an extra picatinny cross cut in the foremost part of the rail. This is to overcome the problem with a very short rail, not accepting large scopes in a useful position. This works very well!

Wow!

That looks as much a work of art, as firearm.

It is difficult to see how long the barrel is......but looks like it may be in the sub-20" class

If so, those are some very impressive results..........Hell, those are impressive from any barrel.

Great looking set up, Marc.

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you.

The barrel is in fact 550mm long (21.65")
180mm (7.1") is hidden inside the supressor wich has eight baffles.

That is in fact a coin, but it is NOT wedged under the top cover. It is bent 90 degrees and wedged BEHIND the receiver. This is because at the time the picture is taken, I'm glassbedding the back end of the receiver with the coin acting "spacer" Marc

...well, I feel I didn't have too much "interesting" stuff to add to these discussions.
I'm not the kind of guy that posts just to make myself heard. here
Additionally I frequented the Vepr forums at guns.net before they dried up totally. After trying to post my pics there and realized I didn't have enough "year credit" to post pics, I came here...

Any non-written rules that says that you should at least post n messages before posting pics?
In that case; I'm sorry, I didn't know...

TO ALL OF YOU:
Thanx for the kind comments on my rifle, and again; sorry for breaking any "rules" on this forum.

Is that basically the Supr Vepr we can buy here in the States with some mods?

Yes it is. The same that you can buy from Robinson Arms. (As long as Robinson doesn't modify it when importing) It looks rather "lousy" on most photos I have seen, but I LOVE it and it always turns heads on the range, but most of all: IT'S DEAD ACCURATE!!!

This rifle is very fun to shoot with varmint ammo. I load Hornady V-MAX 110 gr up to 1050 m/s (3445 ft/s) and that calls for SPECTACULAR effect on soft targets. (Foxes for example EXPLODE on impact) Notice the eyeball in the first pic wich is a fox shot through the neck from approx 300m

LIGHTS OUT MR FOX!
http://blink.dagbladet.no/community/files/r/re/revjakt/streif_skudd.JPG

This one is shot in the front center mass of the body from approx 300m:
http://blink.dagbladet.no/community/files/r/re/revjakt/Kopi_1_av_Bilde_09_.jpg

This ammo groups at approx 1 MOA

The mods is as follows:

- VENTILATED STOCK
milled slots to help the barrel cool faster.

- ADJUSTABLE TRIGGER
(PowerCustom Vepr .308 trigger) This one needs some fitting sice it is NOT made for the Vepr Super. Fitting includes dremel work on the hammer, safety, safety sleeve, trigger guard rivet and to one point on the trigger internals wich conflicts with the safety.

- MODIFIED SCOPE RAIL
milled one extra cross cut in the foreend of the rail to be able to move the front ring one position forward. This is ESSENTIAL if you want to fit a LARGE scope.

- EPOXI BEDDED RECEIVER
the receiver is bedded with steel filled epoxi front and rear to prevent it from moving in the stock. It's not bedded on the sides. This is one of the key mods to accurize your Vepr Super

- FREEFLOATING BARREL
the front sling stud is threaded in the barrel, pressing the stock front to the barrel! I have removed some wood arround the sling stud and in the barrel channel to have it absolutley free. This is the other key mod to accurize your Vepr Super.

- SUPRESSOR
this is the third key "mod" to accurize the Vepr Super. YES it groups a lot better WITH the supressor!

Feel free to ask more questions.

No. These foxes are shot during summertime. The hides are not worth taking care of in the first place, let alone the massive damage inflicted by the varmint bullet. They are shot as vermint regulation. During winter season on the other hand, I'm using round nosed FMJ and salvage as many hides as I can.

Very nice I always liked the SUPER VEPR platform except its looks.

I think you could probably come close to yours cosmetically . Just substitute your suppressor for a fake one.

Did you do the mods on the stock yourself?

Well, sort of. I "designed" (calculated) the vents / spacing to what I think is the best proportions, and did a mockup job using black tape. A friend of mine has access to "heavy" CNC machinery at work (building scientific rockets and particle accelerators). He did the actual machining job.

He also did the machining on the scope rail.

The bedding / freefloating job I did myself as well as the triggerjob.

I tried that, but didn't get it to hold absolute zero. I think because of the length of the scope, it was senitive to sideways force to the front end. Additionally it stresses the rail extensively due to the long lever arm created by the length of the scope with sunshade and ARD.

So the sling stud does not contact the stock and the stock does not contact the barrel?

Also, is that a cross bolt that is in the side of the stock?

Right. The stock "flexes" a few millimeters if I squeeze it towards the barrel both sideways and up.
I didn't care putting the small coverplate arround the slingstud back. You could use a spacer or some steel washers on the stud to have this coverplate "floating" as well, but I don't care. There will be an UIT (Anschutz) rail for the bipod mounted in the underside of the stock next time I come close to the CNC workshop.

Yes, there is a cross bolt through the stock. It is there by "default".
Probably to align the front part of the receiver to the stock, and take up the "slack" space.
My epoxi bedding takes care of this, so I have loosened it a bit to release some tension of the stock.

Was this easy to do?

Well, the epoxibedding itself is a pretty easy task, but doing it right on a Vepr isn't.
The main problem is the stamped steel receiver. This has lots of openings here and there and it is difficult to avoid the epoxi from binding in these areas. The clue is playdough and a "step-by-step" approach. Another issue is the "step" profile of the receiver backend.
I bedded it in three basic steps.

- First I bedded the bottom surface where the receiver rests in the pistol grip, making sure that the front "screwhole stud" made contact with the steel insert in the stock. (tighten the front screw first so that it bottoms out)

- Second I bedded the bottom front of the receiver making sure the front screw stud welded to the barrel made contact with the steel insert in the stock. This assures  stress free mounting of the receiver with the screws tightened.

- Third I bedded the back end of the receiver.

I had to redo this several times before I got the hang of it. It is a pain in the butt to get this right.Hysol,
The bedding is easily checked with the "blueprint" method. You put "carbon copy paper" together with thin white paper under the receiver in the contact points and tighten all screws. Then disassemble and check for an even "print" on the white paper.
