Local guy here is selling his Romanian WASR-10 AK-47. His words are in quotes. It comes with "tatical tapco grip, flash suppersor, scope rail, tapco tactical stock, laser pointer and tactical flash light" along with 2 40rd "clips", 2 30rd "clips", the original wood stock set, and 500 rounds of steel case ammo for $1200. He says he is the orgininal owner, purchased it 6 months ago, put around 900 rounds through it, can't spell and from our conversations, seems like he doesn't have a clue about anything.

I don't know much about AK's and am not really sure if this is a decent price and if you guys think would be worth buying. He doesn't seem willing to nudge on the price anymore than he already did (down to $1200 from $1650 originally). Please share your opinion, thank you.

I'd put the wood back on it. Just for info,1000 rounds of wolf was selling for $350 shipped this weekend and it went fast. WASR's seem to be selling on GB for $850 average. All that other stuff is crap to me, lasers, tapco stock... bleh. He's asking right at current prices i think with the extra two 40's. Not really a deal. If you can stand to wait a few weeks or are willing to hunt on Gunbroker, you can do better. Ammo though... maybe he'll sell just that for a decent price.

Oh the wood would immediately be going back on. Aside from the ammo and magazines, I could care less about the other stuff too. I really wanted to stay at around $750 for an AK right now and am having a hard time deciding if I really want to spend $1200 on one.

I made a change to the ammo amount, it was $350 for 1000 rounds. Look on GB. I see some WASR's selling for closer to what you are looking for. However, shipping, transfer and no ammo will figure in to that. Not to mention you will be doing it face to face. That adds a little to the value for a lot of people. You can always sell those two 40's. i think they are going for $40-50 each. Maybe sell all that tapco stuff on EE for another $40-50.

I thought 7.62 ammo was more expensive than $350/1k rounds right now, do you think this price will continue or go up/down in the coming weeks? Also, do you have any advice what I should be looking for if I decided to check the gun out in person? As I originally said, my knowledge of Ak's right now is minimal so I'm not sure what I should be looking out for. Thank you.

Not a bad deal. $1650 was way too much, but for $1200 and some ammo, it's reasonable at the moment. Put the wood back on, sell the tactical crap, and you might end up with a pretty sweet deal.

May be going this route. If I checked the gun out in person, should I be looking out for anything?

WASR's are notorious for canted front sight blocks, gas blocks, and rear sights. As long as these are good, there shouldn't be any issues.

Would I be easily able to see if they were? Again, I don't know much about AK's.

Look straight down the rifle from the stock to the front sight. You should be able to notice a cant. Also, see if he has the front sight post jacked all the way to one side. That's another indication. Look in the barrel for nice rifling and no rust. Check out the mag well and make sure it looks machined and not routed out by a cave man. It's normal for a magazine to have a little play in WASR's as well. No biggy there.

don't.

give it a month or two.

ETA: looking on the EE - there are several choices in the $1000 range I would take over your current option:

- a 1979 G build that looks great
- a WASR 10/63 with romy folder for $800

He likely paid $500.00 for the rifle 6 months ago and 500 rounds of ammo was worth $110.00 at that time.  Glad the most I ever paid for an AK was $500.00 and that was a SLR-105R.  I'd wait until the insanity blows over.

I'd knock $100 off the price every time he says "Tapco" and "Tactical'
