So I've got a couple of AK's built to take to the range and such, and a "few" more that I want to just put away. If you were to store them, say in a crate, what would you pack them in similiar to cosmoline....?

How long are they going to be put away????Decades...Yes cosmoline...even a couple years.
A few years...Rust inhibiting paper wrap in a vacumed plastic bag....
The same stuff that most guns come wraped in..
If I was going to look on them every now and then....
Then a good coat of gun sheath or gunslick's gun-seal and a silicon impregnated sock/sheath
But ultimatly....THERE is no good long term storage option other than cosmoline...
It works

I have had good luck with Birchwood Caseys Sheath. When it dries, it leaves a waxy residue. I have guns that have been packed away for 15 years and show no pitting or corrosion. The only down side is that it will thicken in places like the bolt internals and make the firing pin sticky.
