Here are some images of the piece parts from the plans I bought from shortfal.

I took the details from his plans and made some mods and just about finished it this weekend.

The assembled images are on my other computer at work. I'll post those later.

Costs.
$10 for prints from shortfal
$20 for raw stock
$60 for ramset from HF

Having a barrel press of my own = priceless

Gime me a break. Have you ever tried to mill 1/4 plate with a drill press? But I do have an X-Y axis vise on my drill press. I don't have all the neat tricks at home that I do at work, OK...sheesh.

But I did get the trunnion support milled pretty good, huh. Not bad for a rookie. Made it from 4140. And you can't see for crap. Those threads are tapped to perfection you fool. I'll get those old eyesthatcan'tseeforshit, a closeup. hehehe

Oh, and the ram support is tacked, you old power ranger wannabe.

I will get the rest of the images posted shortly.

and I needed to relieve the rear of the support for squaring the reciever to the beam.

Money well spent guys...send shortfal an e-mail for information.

Um, what does a barrel press do? Is this to put the barrel into the trunion of just an AK? What else would you use it for?

This is an AK barrel press, for the short, long, and longer rifle.

Too much time on my hands, huh.

I took shortfals plans, made mods, and it will be used for barrel removal and installation.

h.gif  Well I finished my AK today, The rivets sucked, Once I made some fixtures to use with the press the barrel and barrel pin were a snap.  The front trunion rivets I tried the airhamer routine, turned out looking real bad. The rest of the rivets I did on the 30 ton press, they look real good. Your barrel press looks like it would be real handy too, I guess you strap the parts into it? Much more stable than my way. I could have used a couple more hands when I was using my vertical press.

I haven't made the last piece for the upper trunnion support yet. That is the last piece of the press and I am re-designing it to ensure that it will work with milled and stamped recievers. It will be a straight forward assembly/removal horizontal press and I am well pleased with the results so far.

Pete's plans saved a lot of time and the modifications I've made have slowed my progress a bit. It's the Polish engineering blood in my system.

I should be ready to get rolling very shortly and I do not forsee any problems using it.

For folks that want to do-it-yourself, shorfal's plans are the DEAL.
