Local gun shop has a poly-tech underfolder
in .223 for $850. Looks to be in excellent shape. This sound about right?

$200 more than a NIB VEPR K or SAM5, and it has pre-ban goodness. YUM!
I think the 84s uses a very specific mag, but somebody else will have to confirm/deny your future mag supply options.

The Polytech mags are definitely less common than the Norinco mags...which aren't all that common either. Try Sturmgewehr.com.

To tell the difference visually, the Norinco 5.56 mags look pretty much like a straight 7.62x39 mag with the raised vertical ribs running the length of the mag body. The Polytech 5.56 mags have inverted ribs, very similar in appearance to a Galil mag. AFIK, the Galil mags can't be converted to work in the Polytech though.

$850 sounds like a decent price provided you can locate a good quanity of mags.

Good price...I picked up a Poly Tech pre-ban side folder for $900 bucks last weekend. Ex. cond...3 Poly Tech mags with chrome followers...cleaning kit...original sling...original manual (Kengs). He wanted $1,100 and I've had an offer for $1,600! It turned out to be a rare model that only 200-400 were imported. Has a larger folding tube stock that was made for longer American arms!
