I don't remember exactly what size drill bit I used, but I do remember that I figured it out by comparing the screws to various bits and finding one slightly smaller in diameter. Hope that helps.

Did you judge by the width of the threads or the width of the shaft of the screw in side the threads?

I tried to get it slightly smaller then the width of the threads. If it's made to tight you might find yourself later unable to get the screws out. I had to destroy a K-var plum buttstock to get it off once because of overly tight screw holes.

use tape on your drill bits to act as a visual depth stop!
start by using a 3/32" bit, centered in the tang holes (stock install on rifle). move up in 1/64" increments untill the screws can be turned in (using a screwdiver and only moderate turning force) to 3/4 depth. back screw out, lube with bar soap, install to full depth. |
