From my friend...cleaned it all up last night. Still had cosmo in all the nooks and crannies (quite dry by now) and obviously the bore hadn't been cleaned for at least a year. All he ever shot was wolf in it (about 1k rounds, 500 put through it by me, a long time ago)

My question is...the bore....the first 12" or so are nice and shiny...the last 4" or so have carbon/black buildup in them, and for the life of me, I cant get it out. Other than that, ive got the weapon back to 100% clean and lubed. WTF is up with that? Why the last few inches? Any suggestions for getting it out?

Thanks guys!

Alex

Edited to add: This is by far, the best weapon I own. I had this particular SAR in my collection until he came back from college, and its good to have it back again. Can't wait to get it back out and reunite it with the Dark Side :)

How many guns do you own??

BTW is the carbon build up at the muzzle or at the chamber?

muzzle.

Colt M4A3, M39, H&K USP, and the AK

The Colts fun, but after 2 years of owning it, and nearly 10k rounds, it gets left home alot. The USP is a great sidearm, just not a rifle, and the M39, although awesome, is having some extracting issues.

That makes the AK the current champ :)

yeah sure, its chrome lined and shoudlnt hurt a thing, I use it on my AR and my Vepr AK all the time. Just remember to apply some CLP or Lube afterwards because it will dry up the bore real fast

My next step is to get a .35/8mm + caliber brush and try that...cant see it doing any damage...

there's something called blue wonder made by novum solutions - a lot of people speak highly of them for getting out stuff other cleaners don't.
