When I put the nicely blued Tapco extension brake on my AMD65 and had it welded, I saw that I would have to blacken it, so I painted it with Dupli-Color Engine Enamel Low Gloss Black, which is not that flat - kind of satin. So, a few years later (this morning), I decided to repaint it on the gun, so I got some paper towels and wiped it down with lacquer thinner to clean it. It did not dissolve the existing paint and very little came off on the paper. It dried instantly and revealed a smooth, flat black surface! Basically it de-glossed the paint, which is a well-known strategy when re-coating, but I left it alone - looks great.
