...all the way from memphis!
yes, the images weren't pretty...not even then.
i had become bored with the easy, free love hippie chicks and decided to try my luck with the pre-disco glam rockers.
if you had the duds and could pull off the look (and lordy, could i...back in the day!!!), well...jeep, the world was my oyster!
the more i got into the scene, though, the more disappointed i was with the ladies. oh sure...they were knock outs...drop dead georgeous in their makeup and clothes. but they were as shallow a mud puddle on a hot, sunny july day...not that i wasn't equally shallow for taking part in the pursuit.
ah! the night life! waking up at the crack of noon...hitting the floor at midnight...enjoying something new and lovely every weekend! those were the days!
before disco...before sex killed...before designer drugs (ok..ok! so we had a few synthetic kicks!)...before polyester got a bad rap...we was kool! lol!
decadant. obnoxious. disgusting.
and oh, so kool!
i wish i did have a pic of me, during that era, to send to ken.
i have one of him, and we looked and dressed in the same fashion. we shared some of the same passtimes...and i wonder how the scene was in mo. in 1973.
you know, tonight on the way home from my smallbore match, i heard on the radio that brian auger and the oblivion express was playing in kent, ohio tomorrow night.
instant flasback!
the time: 1973
the place: the whiskey au go-go, l.a., california
the event: brian auger and the oblivion express concert.
i was there...in all my duds. and hollywood's most glamorous also attended.
you suppose i could get tickets to tomorrow night's show? i'm pretty sure i can remember every riff brian cranked out of that big assed hammond!
