I got some when the deal first came out
cleaned up OK used but one was trash i ordered 24 i think
Link Posted: 8/11/2006 5:11:59 AM EST
The ones I got were okay. Used in varying condition, but all functional. None of them were terribly ugly. Some really nice. The worst one had a couple of pretty good scratches on it, but even that one is perfectly functional and not really bad looking. It was a good deal.
Link Posted: 8/11/2006 5:54:53 AM EST
I got a few throw away crappers that didn't function... but it was still an OK deal..
Link Posted: 8/11/2006 8:47:28 AM EST
I got one split right down the front

You could try to epoxy it back together using accryglass or the like.
What about the spring/follower/floorplate?

I rated them as "uncommon" in my 5.45 Magazine Guide. However, it's even more uncommon to find one with ink stamps intact; the one on mine is about 90% rubbed off. It seems to me the Bulgarians didn't stamp their mags as liberally as the Russians; none of my Code 10 or Code 21 mags have stamps on them, and many of those were bought brand-new.

Just got 3 dozen in. Of those, 7 were used, but I could hardly tell if it weren't for the follower wear. Various manufacturers, lots of different colors
Link Posted: 12/22/2006 5:55:38 PM EST
The last batch I got about a month ago from ORF were pretty beat, but serviceable. Just reordered another dozen one more time, we'll see what this bunch looks like.
Link Posted: 12/22/2006 6:57:38 PM EST
i got the used 4 pack of 45 rounders and they were in great shape. no complaints at all.
i need to grab another 4 pack while im thinkin about it.
Link Posted: 12/24/2006 2:54:20 PM EST
I got 1 pack a while ago and 1 was split. I e-mailed them and had a replacement in 3 days.

Just received my latest ORF 12 pack 5.45mm magazine order, very fast shipping. No rare or unusual mags in this batch. All are serviceable, no busted ones.

They break down as follows: One black Arsenal 10 well used, two black Arsenal 21 well used, one black Arsenal 21 excellent cond.

Arsenal 21: three brown in excellent cond., one brown well used. Ishzevsk: all shiny plum colored, two excellent, two well used.

At under four bucks a piece I don't see how ya can go wrong on this deal. They work in my SAR-2 & MKII, will see how they do in the Vector Arms RPK-74 I have coming.

ORF has great products and the AK74 magazine 12-pack is unbeatable. The FedEx man has been to my house today trying to deliver my mags. However, ORF requires an "adult signature," for delivery, which is tough because I am at work all day.

How do you all work around that issue?

Never had that problem with "adult signature"
I live at the end of a 1.5 mile dead end road so I guess they don't like comming back.
UPS has no problem leaving a few thousand rounds of ammo on my doorstep...even in the rain.
I have found that a bottle of delivery mans favorate booze for the hollidays goes a long way all year.

Thanks for all the replies, looks like they are still shipping good stuff.
I'm in for just one more 12 pack
Link Posted: 1/3/2007 2:17:39 PM EST
Mine didn't come sig. req.
Link Posted: 1/3/2007 4:31:42 PM EST
The FedEx man just made his third and final attempt to deliver a bunch of stuff I ordered from ORF during the sale, cause I am gone at work when they try to deliver and require a signature. Now the order will go back to ORF before they can send it non-signature required. Note to self: Always specify no signature required.

Ordered (2) 12-packs on Saturday night; just squeaked in under the wire for the 10% off sale. This is my first time playing the ORF -74 mag lottery.

They arrived today. Out of 24 mags, I got:

11x Brown (mocha color) code 21s, most being in very good condition except for a couple with some rust on the floorplates.

6x Black code 10s in average condition (normal wear from use, some rusted/painted floorplates)

3x Black code 21s; 2 avg. as above, 1 like-new

2x Black code 25s; one used/avg., one new with a heavy silver ink stamp (w00t!). This one will go into my non-shooting collection, as it is a better specimen than the one I currently have.

2x Izhevsk plums (w00t! again) in good condition. Both are very shiny maroon (black overspray is long gone) with scratches from use (but thankfully no Cyrillic writing; I hate that sh*t) and finish-worn floorplates. One low mold number (18) and one high (48).

Overall I'm pretty pleased. I'll be keeping the plums, most of the browns, and the new black 25. I will probably let the others go super-cheap, just to recoup some of my investment and share the love with those who missed out on the 10% off sale.

I love the Russki plums -- they work in my Sar-2 & Vector Arms RPK-74 without any alteration whatsoever. I hear ya on the cyrillic scribbles Shooter521. Never had that on my few, but some crazed Russki etched "NAZI" on the side of one of my plums. Guess Vodka consumption remains pretty high over there.

Bulgarians usually work in one gun but not the other, or neither. Until the Dremel is put to 'em; it's a very quick job though, no problems.

ORF has been a lifesaver with their 12 pack offer since the EG bakelites dried up & got kinda expensive at $15 a copy. "Assault" rifle high caps for under four bucks a piece?! Who'd a thought that just three years ago. Or maybe a couple months from now if the demoncrats haven't learned their lesson .......
Link Posted: 1/5/2007 11:29:24 AM EST
I may be the odd one out but I like the cyrillic doodling. Kinda like the trench art carved Yugo AK kits & SKS carbines that have come in.
Link Posted: 1/11/2007 7:13:31 AM EST
My 12-pack arrived late last week.

I got 4 Bulgarian browns in very servicable shape, 4 Bulgarian black mags in very servicable shape and 4 Russian plums, very well worn. One of them has Cryllic carvings and one has a very nice silver stamp.

These are, without a doubt, the best deal going right now on magazines.
Link Posted: 1/11/2007 10:09:59 AM EST
My 3rd order came in yesterday...
6 brown 21
3 black 21
1 fire brick 21
2 black circle 25

No plums this time, just brand new bulgies.
The 25's had nice ink stamps and most mags look new.
One of the black circle 21 has a 4 digit serial # stamped on the floorplate.
No cosmo to clean
Link Posted: 2/2/2007 11:06:58 AM EST
I placed another order last week and got...
6 brown circle 21(good shape 2 w/ink stamps)
6 black circle 21 (2 ok shape and 4 with rusty floorplates)
This is it for me..for real this time

I ordered a 12 pack a long time ago.

Mine had
1 Bulgarian "shiny plum"
2 brand new Bulgarian browns
2 brand new Bulgarian blacks
9 used Bulgarian blacks

All of them work fine. The blacks are mostly 10s and 21s.

I ordered 2 12 packs the other day . Got them in 2 days .

Got 11 Black ones and the rest Brown. The black ones had some scratches and wear with 1-3 being in excellent shape.

Now the Brown ones all seemed brand new . Most dont have any insertion marks or wear on the followers.

Thanks ORF !!!!!!

Now the ORF deal is a good one....$3.00 mag, no need to deal with the #@&^$ French, no $30 for "Buyers Club," no bait and switch, no rust, no cosmo........

Are the mags supposed to be worn on the right side lip. Allseem to have varying degrees of ware there. Will this effect function. The ones I got all looked great except for this.

There's a deliberate milled cut on one of the feed lips, don't know which one it is.

where did you get 3.00 per mag? the price of these are 47.99 for 12... they jacked the price up man.

Ouch. And don't forget to factor in shipping...

Still the best deal going, just not as good of a deal as it used to be. Glad I bought my fill when they were still really cheap!

Link Posted: 2/7/2007 5:14:24 PM EST
i am contemplating buying one of these even without owning a 74... however, i am looking to get a 74 as ammo seems much more realistic for plinking.

Major bummer, price increase and no pouches

If ORF thinks they can still move out the used mags at a higher price, they must finally be running low. Most good deals don't last near as long as this one did .....
Link Posted: 2/8/2007 10:04:05 AM EST
This sucks
They don't have as many 74 kits now too. Their prices went up on some kits too.

The way my last batch looked I thought the end of this deal was comming soon...
47 bucks was the price with shipping for me to Fl.
It's still only about a dollar a mag more.

Thanks to all that played and thanks again ORF

My last batch of 24 was an even split between good-to-fair black mags and like-new brown ones. It occurred to me that the prices went up because they were out of skanky mags and had only good ones left...
Link Posted: 2/12/2007 11:49:25 PM EST
I bought a 12 pack of these when I bought my AK-74S kit from them.

All black Bulgies, 7 Circle 21 and 5 Circle 10. I am pleased though, as I got a Russian (Tula) 45rd Bakelite from with the kit, along with an Izhmash plum 30rd.

If your 45rd bakelite has a star-in-shield arsenal mark, it was manufactured by Molot (Polyanny Arsenal). The Tula mark is a large star without the shield, and Tula didn't make any 45-rounders that I'm aware of.

Link Posted: 2/13/2007 10:04:55 AM EST
Oh I missed that part, I guess it's a Molot then, since it is a star in shield mark. I must've overlooked that in the mag guide, thanks for pointing it out. =)

Are Bulgie black, brown, plum, and firebrick red mags priced similar?

I ask because I got all black and brown Bulg. mags in my order, and I'm content with that, but I was interested in trading some of my black mags for plum and red, just for the sake of variety.
Link Posted: 2/13/2007 1:45:37 PM EST
I don't know about the firebrick, but I think all of the plum ones are russian.

On the open market, Bulgarian saddle tan and firebrick red mags will bring slightly higher prices than the black and brown, because they are less common and more desirable to collectors. The plum mags that are occasionally received in the ORF deal are Russian; they will command higher prices still - perhaps significantly higher, if they are in very good condition with the arsenal marks intact.

Correct as far as the ORF deal goes, but there are Bulgarian plums out there; I've seen both Code 10 and Code 21. The former are produced by Arsenal Inc. for K-VAR, specifically for the US market. Not sure about the latter.

That's very interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks for the info!
