I'm looking at purchasing a Norinco .223.  It's in excellent condition and a great buy.  My question is, do these take proprietary magazines only?  If not, what type of mags will it accept?

Thank you.

I had one.  They take Norinco .223 mags, which are steel.  They are proprietary.  They are not overly rare and you see them for sale quite often.  They cost alot more than 7.62x39 mags.  They are completely different than the Polytech .223 mags.

.223 Bulgarian waffle mags will work great with very little modification.  A little sanding here and there and they run fine.

I'd get as many Chinese mags as you can with it, as they are stout mags, and then buy as many Bulgy .223 waffles as you can find for a good price and just use them.

Ive paid $20-$30 each for my Chinese .223. Use only Chinese...dont try and alter something. Keep your eyes open in the EE and you will find some at decent prices.

+1 stick with Norinco mags. They are available and not overly expensive, I've never paid more than $ 25 for a 30 roundr. Most are marked " China" on floorplate. They come in short 15 rd mags and standard 30's.
