Old M1A/AR guy who got bit by the AR bug with a wasr first, and more recently with an Arsenal saiga conversion.

The question I have is... does anyone use a cheek pad of any sort to improve the weld when using a red dot, and if so do you have any suggestions.

I am a bit spoiled in that I don't want to 'search' for the reticle when I bring the gun up.

(As for the performance of either AK, 600 rounds into the wasr, 200 into the Arsenal, 0 FTF)

Not sure what your options for a fixed stock are but there are probably some doodads that could work.

For a triangle folder, an SVD cheekpad and some electrical tape is the perfect solution:

What kind of stock do you have?

If you have a conversion then I would def. recommend the metal triangle/svd pad like TX-Zen uses. It works great IMO.

Shameless posting of pics. Para-cord will shim it up tight.
