January 1, 2004 is the start of the First National Postal AK Match. AKFiles.com is hosting the administration of it. It's open to all Kalashnikov-system firearms, plus automatic rifles produced in any of the former ComBloc countries. No fees, no prizes, nothing but the enjoyment of competition. (There may be some prizes put up by some companies, but none as yet. I won't promise what we don't have.)
If you're interested, go to AKFiles.com. We have our own forum there, and you can read the rules and FAQs, as well as downloading the official target. If you have questions not answered on the forum, you can e-mail me at "
[email protected]".
There will be classes for "stock" AKs, as well as the modified rifles such as the Vepr, Galil, Valmet, and gunsmith-built rifles, in high-power (.308, 7.62x54R, 8mm Mauser), intermediate (7.62x39 and 5.45x39 if desired), and small-bore (5.56x45 and 5.45x39 if desired). There's also a class for bipod-equipped rifles, and for the "orphans"--other automatics produced by ComBlock countries. The goal is to give everyone a class that they can have a chance to win in.
There will be a new competition each month, and a winner for the year. Spread the word, and get to the range and do your best.
