Is $475 plus shipping and ffl a good deal for an slr-105?

edit: oh, I forgot to ask, SLR-105s are  5.45 right?

The price is OK. I paid 455.00 for my SLR-105(ban version) a few months ago.

Yes, the rifle is chambered for 5.45x39 mm

If these are the SLR105's that Chris Butler from AK-USA is selling then yes that is a good deal, $475 DELIVERED.

Am I right in thinking these do not have a threaded barrel?  Which of these two is a better buy?

here is the 105--     http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976784051.htm

Yes, the SLR-105's muzzle is not threaded.

Which is the better buy?  It really depends on what you want-the 5.45 or the 7.62 cartridge.  Both are great rifles, but if you're going to go with the .30 caliber, I'd opt for a Vector Classic.

Just my opinion.

Interesting, you think the vector classic is the better rifle...  I'll keep that in mind.  Do you happen to know where Vector gets the parts for its classic?  Thanks for the imput!

I think what he meant is that if you're going to stick with 7.62x39, get the Vector Classic since it's in about the same price range as the 5.45x39 SLR-105.  I have two Arsenal AK's and they're great.  Top quality and reliable as hell.  Only gripe is the finish...but that can be fixed relatively cheaply.

The parts are Polish. I just got off the phone with Atlantic and bought one of the AK V 47 , Under Folder Rifle. Special ordered the poly version. They said that they were very nice rifles. http://www.vectorarms.com/myweb2/guns/AK-47%20NEW%20UNDER%20FOLDED%20sml.gif

They give forum discounts, through Atlantic

If you are buying from AK-USA you could spend a little more by buying the parts from K-var and having Chris Butler unban it for you before he ships it.  He could also replace the stock finnish.

Any idea what that should cost?  Am I better off just buying a post-ban version?  Also, one last question, is the 5.45 round harder/more expensive to get here in the US?  I am pretty indifferent between the 7.63 and 5.45, I just really want to find a good deal on a new AK with black poly furniture.  What is the best deal I can get for under $600?

Chris has all the parts to unban it already. He finisher an AK105 type rifle for me last week. It should be here by Friday. The base rifle was one of the banned version SLR 105's he has for sale on GA for $475 Del.

That is agood price if you want a gun w/o evil features. The price Chris charges, to me, are justified because for the simple fact that if the gun goes out the door it will be straight and true. No front sight cant, bad trigger, bad blem. Even though these are stock guns. But as in my case the gun would never leave his shop as is(off the rack). Rest assured buying anything from him. He does amazing work with short lead times and very reasonable. I can't wait for my AK 105 variant to get here on Friday.Al

Would you pay an extra 20% to have a Glock that was sold by a really detailed oriented person?

Anyone have an estimate on how much Chris would charge to ship one of these with a new FSB/brake assy and a refinish job?

Call him. He is VERY easy to deal with. BTW that is my next build from him. In plum of course.

robpiat - Not that Glock's suffer the same problems out of the box that some AK's do. But yeah!!!! To ME that is enough to buy from Chris and not a wholesaler. CS is not completely dead. Good luck.

Just bought the slr-105 ban version.  I am pretty excited.  What do you guys think, do I really need to unban it, will it make a real difference, and is it really worth an additional $175 for a threaded muzzle and bayo lug?

Congrats !

The rifle looked nice, even without all the evil parts.

Thanks!  I am really excited to get it!  The only problem is that I have to wait until I am back in WA for thanksgiving to shoot it as I am in California for school...  Oh well...
