Please, whatever you do, don't screw with the SKS. The Russian SKS' are some of the best ones out there. If you want a rifle that shoots with AK mags, you can pick up a cheap WASR or SAR for a little more then what it would take to convert your SKS.

It's been a long time since you were able to get the parts that would allow you to modify an SKS to use AK mags. If you want an SKS that can do so then buy an SKS-D or SKS-M. The Russian SKS you have is no longer imported so why ruin it?

You can modify an SKS to use regular AK mags. You will spend a bunch of money on milling equipment, and your reliability will suffer. The worst part is that you will look around and realize that you spent a metric buttload of money just to end up with the same rifle you could have bought factory built for $250.
I have two SKS-m rifles and like them, but I prefer my 10rd Yugo SKS, and AK's to them. |
