Hey fellas,

Is this true?

Today it’s difficult for us to think of the milled receiver Type 3 (as it’s commonly known in the West) as being light weight with its weight being about 1.1 pounds (0.5 kg) heavier (with an empty magazine) than the now more common stamped-receiver AKM. But at the time it was introduced the Type 3 was about 0.9 pounds (0.4 kg) lighter than the milled receiver Type 2 rifle, and about 1.1 pounds (0.5 kg) lighter than the original stamped receiver AK47 (Type 1 in the West).

I found it here: www.avtomats-in-action.com/pro21.html.

Thanks for reading!

Justin

10,000 posts and you don't know that a milled receiver is heavier than stamped?

I'm pretty sure he's wondering if its a whole pound heavier specifically.

Hell yeah it is.  There's no doubt in my mind whatsoever.

Poly Tech Legend folder = 8lbs 1oz
Yugo M70AB2 folder      = 7lbs 11oz

Granted, the Yugo has a thicker receiver and has a heavier barrel then your basic AKM.  Could be close to a pound.  Wouldn't surprise me.

the Yugo altogether is just a thick-ass rifle, put up a smaller rifle like a WASR then check the weight

Precisely.  Thanks, dude.

How though?  The milled 5.56x45mm Arsenal SA M-5 is listed as 3.41 kg, or 7.52 lbs (link), whereas the stamped 5.56x45mm Arsenal SLR-106FR measures 3.31 kg, or 7.3 lbs, (link).

Instead of comparing Apples and Oranges , try this.

www.arsenal-bg.com/defense_police/5.56_arsenal_assault_rifle_ar-m1_ar-m1f.htm

5.56x45 Milled  - 3.62 kilograms (Arsenal Bulgaria mfg.)

5.56x45 Stamped - 3.31 kilograms ( Arsenal Inc mfg. )

yeah no doubt!  I recently picked up a SAR2, compared to my chinese guns, it feels  like HALF the weight!  I can only imagine a milled gun...

one of the reasons the Russkies ditched the milled receivers and made AKMs

I am also surprised it is only 1-pound heavier...  perhaps that is just the receiver and other parts of the Milled AKs are heavier then the AKMs but my Miled AK seems much more the 1-pound heavier...

You really need someone with a stripped AKM and a Milled AK-47 receiver to weigh them both to compare.  I am not about to strip my guns to do it however!

But what's the difference between the AR-M1 and the SA M-5?

Looks like the side folder weighs even more, at 3.84 kg: www.arsenal-bg.com/defense_police/5,56ar-m7f.htm.
